Yas Chicken
It’s crispy. It’s crunchy. It’s golden, brown and delicious. When it comes to fried chicken, everyone is saying ‘YES’ to ‘YAS’.
With locations in Allston, Lawrence and this one in Lynn, Yas Chicken is a friendly neighborhood specializing in that crunchy, juicy mainstay, the fried chicken sandwich.
Operations manager, Jason Mei and his team are constantly egging, breading and frying everything from wings to tenders to sandwiches at this fast casual spot the locals love.
“Opening a chicken shop is definitely competitive, but we have confidence in our ingredients. More people are starting to noticing everything is homemade. And they can see that everything is homemade.
Everything’s made in the morning. We come in early. Just get it done for the day.”
The space itself is super low key, serving mostly takeout, but with a bar in the front for those customers who want to dine in. And since it’s made to order, the chicken comes out piping hot every time.
“We cut them and then we put them in flour and then we have our own special spice that we top it off on the breading. And then we fry it and we serve. When you bite it, then you get that little crunchy is hot, because they may get as ticket comes in. So we will make it on the spot. And it has our own flavor because we put our own bread into it.”
The chicken sandwiches are the reason why people come to Yas, with creative options like the so called Mac Zaddy.
“Mack zaddy. It’s house breaded chicken with spicy garlic glaze on the chicken and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese on the sandwich and it’s between the bun and the chicken. When you bite into it you get that low spicy taste, it balances out. That’s actually one of our top selling items in this location.”
There’s the Supreme sandwich loaded up with coleslaw and spicy Yas sauce and the Cheesy Chick oozing with Pepperjack and topped with mayo and pickles. But it’s ‘The Duo’ that’s the sandwich you truly have to get your hands on.
“The duo is a waffle bun with our savory fried chicken. It’s like a waffle sandwich. It’s like a square and then top it off of mayo, chicken, bacon. It comes with a syrup on the side. It’s a lot of sweet in your mouth just because of the syrup and the mayo but it balances out with the breading of the chicken. If you love chicken and waffles, I would definitely highly recommend getting the duo.”
Other chicken offerings include twice fried wings smothered in sauces like soy garlic or honey mustard and the Yas Bite Nuggets- seasoned with a special blend of spices and served with that famous Yas Sauce.
“So Yah Sauce, it’s sriracha and mayo base and then add our own ingredients to it which had to make a sweet but at the same time, it’s also spicy. You have to try it.“
The kitchen at Yas not only specializes in chicken- but also they’re doing tasty concoctions with cheese. From their creamy dreamy mac and cheese to their loaded tots smothered in the good stuff. But it’s the Mozzarella Wonton that’s a true delectable spectacle.
“It’s like a spring roll. You’re pretty much eating cheese. Just wrapped and fried. You get that cheese poll. It could go as long as I will say 10 inches. So it’s pretty long. It’s way better than any mozzarella stick.”
You also have to try all of the creative snacks Yas has to offer on a stick, like crispy fried jumbo shrimp popsicles. And the over the top Korean Corn Dog stuffed with cheese and drizzled with sweet mayo and ketchup.
“It’s cheese and a hot dog in the middle and we bread it with breadcrumb. And then we will fry it and then we was drizzled with mayo, regular ketchup and Korean spicy ketchup that we make also homemade with my Parmesan cheese and parsley. We have customer comes in. They will eat on the spot. They can’t wait.”
And you won’t be able to wait for dessert- especially if you get the fried donuts dusted with cinnamon powdered sugar and served with chocolate sauce for dipping.
“You have to save room for them. Everybody wants a little dessert after they have a good meal.”
And whether it’s the chicken sandwiches. The ooey gooey apps or the decadent desserts. If you’re having a snack attack, you’ll never want to pass on some eats from Yas.
