Wemmy’s Kitchen & Lounge
With less people going into the city from work and working from home. We're living in a golden age of the suburban Steakhouse, and a prime example is Wemmy’s kitchen and lounge in Marlborough.
“So Wemmy’s Kitchen and Lounge is it's all American restaurant we serve steak, seafood, you know, it's a perfect spot for date night and much more.
You know, I want everybody to when they come in the door and be like, Wow, this space is, you know, beautiful. And, you know think like they in Boston. “
Welly and Wemmy are two of my favorite guys in the restaurant business. Welly’s is named after Welly. Wemmy’s is named after Wemmy. They're Brazilian guys, super nice, super hardworking, living the American dream by building their own great business.
This is a beautiful restaurant with a great bar, leather banquettes next to it, the sort of a wall separating the dining area. Wherever you are, you can see the open kitchen. They really pay attention to detail. Look up at the ceiling, you'll see a W on the vents.
I'm a big French onion soup guy, and this is a really hearty, really gourmet version of this dish. It's got Parmesan cheese, Swiss cheese, fried shallots, rosemary, wow!
“So, the French onion, it's amazing. It's salty, it's cheesy. I'm sure if you come here and try the onion soup, you not gonna regret it. You’re gonna love it…It's by far, one of the best French onion soup I ever had.”
You got to get the poutine. This is a braised short rib over those delicious hand cut fries with cheese curds. I got the short rib a fry and the cheese pull. That’s how it's done.
“So with the shortribs, we braise for over six hours. We put in carrots, celery, it's, it's very tender. It's very juicy. And then we got the cheese curds. We have the fries. It's fresh, it's crispy. It's a great app.”
The most popular dish on the menu is the scallops. It's served with a bacon jam over giant fingerling potatoes and a romesco sauce. This dish is proof Wemmy’s is not your dad's Steakhouse.
“It's just a perfect combination, and it's definitely a must try dish.”
The seafood Pappardelle has those long, delicious noodles, lobster, shrimp, scallops, tomato, cheese, cream, a seafood purist will tell you that cheese should not be on a seafood dish. I could not disagree anymore with that statement.
“Fresh made pasta. And it's, it's delicious. It's definitely, you know, a dish that you know. If you're looking for a pasta dish, it's a definitely must try pasta. Great combination of the flavors and it's,
it's, delicious.”
Welly and Wemmy are from Brazil. You're always going to get some Latin influence on their menu. It's one of the things I love about what these guys do. This is a skirt steak with that chimichurri sauce. You can smell the garlic from that sauce. And there's an arugula salad with pickled onions and those amazing truffled french fries round out this dish perfectly.
“The chimichurri steak, it's, by far, well, it's Wellington's favorite dish. It's juice. It's tender. You know, the finish with the chimichurri and the homefries and the greens. It's hand cut fries made in house, and it's like crispy, and it's finished with the you know, parmesan and then it's just out of this world. It's amazing.”
The best thing on this menu is the steaks, and the best steak is the bone in ribeye. The Bone adds a lot of flavor, and a lot of people will tell you that a ribeye is the most flavorful cut of steak because it has so much fat, and it's served with a charred broccolini and a mountain of whipped potatoes.
“It's tender, it's juicy, it's, it's a perfect season that's made in house. It's by far one of the most popular steaks on a menu, and it's one of my favorite, if not my favorite steak…You definitely love it. It’s amazing.”
I eat so much steak sometimes I get a pork chop just to keep things a little bit lighter, this one is served bone in with an apple reduction, and just look at that plate presentation. It's as beautiful as it is tasty.
“It's cooked to perfection and every single person that have come here and tried it absolutely love it. And you know.It's a wonderful dish.“
When I eat seafood, I want key lime pie. When I eat steak, I want chocolate. Here double chocolate, they have a Chocolate Crunch strip with a raspberry sauce and whipped cream.
“It's one of my favorite desserts on the menu. It's crispy, it's very chocolate, it's creamy, it's rich, and it's a great dessert for you to try and you won't regret it.”
And you gotta get the Espresso Martini flight. It has gold, cream and dark. That is the way to end a steakhouse meal. I know you're in the mood for a martini, a steak and a glass of red wine, well at least I know I'm in the mood for that, so maybe I'll see at Wemmy’s Kitchen and lounge in Marlborough.
