Waverly Kitchen & Bar
Big bowls of fresh pasta tossed in hearty bolognese.
“Nothing can make you feel warmer inside than that combination.”
Indulgent poutine topped with duck confit.
“We just think that this room screams that level of comforting housemade dish.”
Piping hot Chicken Pot Pie.
“There’s nothing better than hunkering down at the bar or by our fireplace with a chicken pot pie.
If you’re looking for next level comfort- both with the food, AND the mood, there’s no place quite like Waverly.
Located in Charlestown, in the shadow of the Bunker Hill Monument, Waverly Kitchen and Bar is a new neighborhood spot, specializing in all things comforting.
“So Waverly is an homage to an old hotel in Charlestown. It was one of the biggest hotels in Charlestown in the late 1800s So we wanted to replicate that sense of hospitality that you get in a hotel. It is a cozy, homey intimate restaurant with a beautiful fireplace in the middle of the dining room and big beautiful open windows. A marble bar..and an open kitchen with chef’s counter seats. We designed Waverly to feel like an old historic Charlestown brownstone. So you walk in and immediately it feels homey. You get that grandma’s house vibe. But still really bright and, and energetic.”
General Manager Lauren Whelan is the friendly face you’ll always find on the floor, making sure every customer is happy, at all hours of the day.
“We’re open all day every day. So we’ve got brunch every single day. But even more when you come in here you feel and you’re treated like your family to everybody. So you know, the staff welcomes you. We have that old school hospitality. We want to know your name and we’re going to remember you the next time you come in.”
The appetizers at Waverly are a line up of New England favorites with fresh local oysters and iconic bites like these Parker House Rolls- an homage to the originals, created at Boston’s Parker House Hotel in the late 1800s.
“We make those Parker house rolls right in house so they are warm and gooey when they come out with our sea salted honey butter. Really just the perfect way to start.”
And for the ultimate indulgence, the duck poutine is the way to go. These crunch spuds are fried in duck fat, topped with cheddar curds, and a sunnyside egg. Along with duck confit, duck gravy and duck cracklins.
“It’s like a flavor bomb salty, gooey, duck gravy. You know, crunchy, with the duck cracklings on top, and just those fries that kind of tie it all together. It’s so good.”
But for an appetizer you’ll want all for yourself, get the Waverly Mac and Cheese. Made with a blend of scotch and smoked gouda, with thick cut bacon over rigatoni, this masterpiece is topped with butter biscuit crumbs for some added texture.
“You get that smoky Gouda flavor with a tiny Tang from the scotch and then you get our house cured thick cut bacon. Really nice crunch there with the bacon. And those butter biscuit crumbs on top. It is gooey goodness.”
The carbs continue right through the menu with house made tagliatelle topped with hearty bolognese. Or Lauren’s go-to, the Parpadelle with Burrata.
“We have a beautiful thick pappardelle, our pink vodka sauce with broccoli in it so it’s healthy. And a big piece of burrata cracked right on top. So you get that little bite from the burrata crust and then it’s nice and creamy on the inside. That’s one of my personal favorites.”
The entree section of the menu has something for every appetite. Carnivores will love this beautiful NY Prime Strip Steak with cacio e pepe fries and rosemary hollandaise. Or this burger topped with thick cut house bacon, Vermont white cheddar, caramelized onion, and Grillo’s pickles on sesame brioche. And if you’re vegetarian, the Eggplant Stack is a pileup of deliciousness.
“It’s a nice tall stack of eggplant layered with our house roasted tomato sauce and cheese and it’s absolutely delicious. It looks great and it tastes even better.
But the perfect bite at the Waverly has to be their soul satisfying Chicken Pot Pie.
“Our chicken potpie features a different mix of mushrooms and herb veloute. SO nice creamy sauce, chicken, some of those veggies inside and what makes it really unique is that it’s topped with our phyllo crust and shaved black truffle right on top. It’s got a little bit of height a little bit of crunch. It’s really delicious.”:
And at dessert, Waverly offers another tasty throwback.
“We’ve got a house made chocolate chip cookie with Richardson’s vanilla ice cream all wrapped up for you. Super nostalgic, really fun for all ages. The perfect way to end the meal.”
If you’re in Charlestown in the morning, Waverly offers brunch seven days a week with satisfying breakfast sandwiches topped with thick cut bacon, cheese, an over-easy egg and a sweet and spicy maple fresno aioli all on an English muffin. There’s Baklava French Toast topped with candied walnut syrup, cinnamon phyllo crumble and a honey yogurt drizzle and the flavor packed huevos rancheros.
“It is two big circular tortillas on our plates stacked really tall. But 2 sunny eggs. It comes with our Ranchero sauce and our chorizo, a little bit of space, a little bit of tang, and it’s nice and cheesy. Something that you could eat every day.”
And with food like this, why wouldn’t you want to eat everyday at Waverly Kitchen and Bar.
