The Grille Restaurant & Pub
The Grille Restaurant and Pub in Hartford is simple, straightforward, and standard.
Atmosphere(6)
The Grille seems to occupy more space than necessary. Phantom entered through a large, dark lounge area. Dining room was very drafty, dimly lit, and reminiscent of a roadside motel.
Menu(8)
Not extremely innovative, but the menu is comprehensive, varied, and attractive. It's easy to find something to order.
Portions(8)
It will fill your stomach, but won't burst your belt.
Appetizers(8)
Potato skins with cheese, bacon and scallions were pan-fried to a golden brown. Coconut shrimp accompanied by a sweet marmalade dipping sauce burst with flavor. Excellent salads, especially when topped with the home made blue cheese dressing.
Food and Drink(7)
Disappointing teriyaki chicken served in a tangy, but very salty sauce arrived lukewarm. Fortunately, it came with a hot and flavorful side or garlic mashed potatoes. Barbecue Baby Back Ribs are smothered in a dark sauce which lacks the kick of true Southern barbecue, but were still enjoyable.
Desserts(9)
Phantom loves it when restaurants bring out the dessert tray. Spectacular and mammoth slice of Tollhouse Pie. And how about Snickers cheesecake served on an Oreo crust.
Service(8)
Water and soda glasses are constantly refilled. Waitstaff is very charming and full of suggestions. Phantom waited a bit for his appetizers, but then the meal progressed nicely.
Cleanliness(7)
The dining room is quite clean, but the bathrooms need some serious attention-- Very smoky.
Parking(8)
Exit 58 off I-84, just 10 minutes from downtown Hartford. Plenty of parking in the restaurant's own lot.
Value(7)
Appetizers from $5-7. Sandwiches run about $6. Most entrees from $10-$15. Average pub-style food at prices you'd expect to pay.
