Tap City Grill
Right in the heart of downtown Hyannis, there’s a place that serves up scratch-made dishes, creative pizzas, and American classics in a welcoming space that keeps locals and tourists coming back. This is Tap City Grill.
Tap City Grill is the kind of place where the taps are flowing, the TVs are glowing, and the menu is stacked with local favorites and comfort food classics. It’s a high-energy hangout offering classic American dishes all made in their scratch kitchen, thanks to owner Ben Surro.
Ben explains, “We’re an American style bistro featuring locally sourced fresh seafood, beef and chicken. We have a great pizza oven. We have 75 craft beers, cans, and bottles… everything we do here is fresh. If we can’t make it, we’re a scratch kitchen… we’ll source it locally.” He adds, “It’s a great fun, festive atmosphere, and we do our best to satisfy the individual coming through the door.”
That satisfaction starts with the appetizers. First up is poutine, a nod to our northern neighbors with crispy fries smothered in rich gravy and melty cheese curds. At Tap City, it’s topped with a fried egg—indulgent, messy, and perfect for sharing.
Then there’s the French onion soup, served piping hot with caramelized onions and gooey melted cheese on top. For something fun and sharable, the stuffed pretzel delivers. It’s part jumbo pretzel, part Philly cheesesteak, and 100 percent delicious.
Ben explains, “We have our homemade pizza dough that we make every single day. We take shredded Philly steak, cheddar cheese, stuff it, packing it, roll it up, turn it into a pretzel, bake it in the wood-fired pizza oven… it’s gooey, it’s gooey, it’s gooey. We also serve it with our house-made mustard sauce and sprinkle it with kosher salt. When you pull it apart, it melts in your mouth.”
That pizza dough is a big deal at Tap City. It’s made fresh every morning, stretched and tossed, then fired to order in a 700-degree pizza oven. The menu ranges from classic pies to creative combinations.
One standout is the North End pizza, layered with hand-cut pepperoni, sausage, ricotta cheese, and fresh mozzarella. Another favorite is the Porky Fig pizza, a sweet-and-savory creation with house-made fig jam instead of traditional sauce, fresh mozzarella, multiple cheeses, caramelized onions, and bacon lardons, finished with a drizzle of pomegranate molasses.
Beyond pizza, the menu expands into flavorful handhelds. The Cajun shrimp tacos bring heat with Cajun-spiced fried shrimp, grilled tortillas, mango salsa, and house-made bang bang sauce for extra kick. Seafood lovers can go for the crab cake sandwich, featuring lemon-pepper arugula, a pan-seared crab cake, and bang bang sauce on a toasted bun.
For serious crunch, Ben recommends the BBQ fried chicken sandwich. “Buttermilk marinated overnight, breaded, deep fried. We have our own house-made barbecue sauce. Put a little lettuce, a little tomato on it, a fresh grilled brioche bun… our house-made fries, which are delicious, and our homemade pickles.”
When you’re ready for something rich and hearty, Tap City delivers with braised short rib, slow-cooked in red wine until fork-tender and served over mashed potatoes with roasted seasonal vegetables. The steak tips are juicy, well-seasoned, and served with roasted potatoes and veggies.
But the ultimate fan favorite might be the mac and cheese with bacon. Ben says, “It’s our own cheese sauce. We make it with four different cheeses, cavatappi pasta, mixed in the oven with bacon lardons and seasoned cracker crumbs. It comes out crispy, hot, and full of flavor. Everybody loves it—kids, adults, everyone.”
And who doesn’t love a place like this? From loaded appetizers to crave-worthy pizzas and hearty mains, Tap City Grill in Hyannis brings big flavors, cold drinks, and a high-energy vibe that keeps people coming back. This is definitely one city you’ll want to tap into.
