Skywalk Restaurant

Gourmet is not the word of the day, but for a quick, consistent meal, the Skywalk Restaurant in Hartford fits the bill.

Atmosphere(8)

Great people watching available on the "Skywalk" that connects the Civic Center Mall to 242 Trumbull Street. Convenient cafeteria style-deli counter available as well.

Menu(6)

Good mix of sandwiches, salads and tasty burgers. But the menu is too heavy on pasta and chicken dishes. You'll be disappointed if you've got a hankering for a steak.

Portions(8)

Phantom found himself with a few white Styrofoam containers on the ride home.

Appetizers(7)

Very standard appetizer menu, but the chicken quesadilla and French onion soup satisfied the Phantom.

Food and Drink(7)

"Skywalk Club" is the best sandwich on the menu. Tortellini carbonara is a solid pasta pick as is the simple penne puntanesca. Steer clear of the Shrimp a la Paolo, four shrimp over lifeless pasta.

Desserts(7)

Ask your waiter for the rather lengthy oral menu. A very rich "carrot walnut cake" is a nice meal topper. The Cheesecake isn't authentic New York, but it holds its own.

Service(9)

Very friendly and quick, but not rushed. If you go more than 3 minutes with an empty water glass, Phantom will eat his foam/mesh Pac Man hat.

Cleanliness(8)

No bones to pick here, nice clean dining room and tidy bath.

Parking(7)

Ground zero downtown Hartford, but parking is a problem. Opt for the Civic Center Garage. At 55 cents per half hour, it won't break the bank.

Value(8)

Sandwiches and burgers are very reasonable priced from $6 to $8. Pastas and entrees run $10-13. Not a bad deal at all.
