Sixties Diner
I love diners. Problem is that can be a little small little crowded and maybe even a little bit dingy. That's why I was really excited when they opened a big beautiful new diner called the 60s Diner in Norwood.
Welcome back to the 60s. Welcome back to the 60s.
Peter Morrissey is a madman. He's owned restaurants for a long time, he owns Boston Tavern next door and the 60s Diner is his new baby.
We want you to feel like you’re living again in the 60s
When you walk in it’s almost overwhelming. I mean it’s got the high ceilings and the stainless steel and at least 200 pieces of 60’s memorabilia. I could walk around for like an hour almost like it’s a museum.
So I decorated the restaurant with uh memorabilia and pictures from the 60s Of course. Sports, politics, music, movies, TV, cars. All the all the things you love from the 60s. Many, many items on our menu are named after personalities from the 60s. For example, Chuck Berry's french toast has raspberries and blueberries and strawberries and bananas on top.
So there’s a lot of fruit, making you think it’s healthy despite the bread, powdered sugar sweet butter, and sweet syrup.
I think this is the best seat in the house. At a diner, I prefer to be at the counter, where the server is right nearby, because I’m looking for like 4 or 5 cups of coffee. Also, it has a straight shot into the kitchen so I can see what’s coming in and out and what looks especially good.
The raspberry cream cheese pancakes are made with fresh raspberries and cream cheese that they use for this delicious sauce that’s layered in between the stacks of these big fluffy pancakes.
And by the way, homemade whipped cream used at all times.
If there’s anything better than homemade whipped cream it’s homemade whipped cream served tableside. Or served straight into your mouth. I love when a restaurant offers make your own omelet and my formula is one meat, one vegetable and one cheese, here I have linguica, onions and cheddar cheese and let me tell ya, I’ve had it before it’s amazing.
So we have 20 ingredients with which you can make your own omelet. Uhh Pick 1,2,3,4,5 or pick all 20 will make it for you. If you eat one of these for breakfast, you probably won't need lunch.
Steak and eggs is one of those things, if I see it on the menu, I just order it and they make a great version of it here. These steak tips have been perfected at Boston Tavern.
They're in a marinade so they're very sweet then the eggs come over easy which are great for dipping. If you want to dip your toast or your home fries. I go heavy on the protein at breakfast anyway. So this is right up my alley.
I don’t know if the banana split waffle is dessert or breakfast and I don’t care because it is a showstopper.
All of the ingredients from a banana split, sitting on top of our delicious malted waffle. Mmmmmmm
Chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream, hot fudge, strawberry syrup, caramel syrup fresh whipped cream, crushed walnuts, and of course a cherry on top.
I’m a big fan of The Monkeys, both the TV show and their music, and whenever that song comes on “I’m a Believer” the whole place just goes wild I mean the customers and the staff they’re standing up they’re singing they’re clapping it’s really fun.
And then I saw her face
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
60’s Diner does breakfast and lunch only and this is the ultimate marriage of the two. The chicken and waffles. Their rendition is unusual for something that’s usually really sweet. This one isn’t. It’s made with a chicken cheese sauce with a little paprika and it’s really tasty.
If you're hungry and you can't decide between breakfast and lunch, chicken and waffles.
I love the show Happy Days, I always wanted to be cool like the Fonz, truth is, I’m a geek like Ralph Malph and this is the Ralph Malph Ruben dog.
This is a big hot dog and it’s topped with warm, fresh, crispy corned beef hash. It’s got melted Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing This hot dog will never jump the shark.
American chop suey is one of my dad’s favorites and I think one of the all-time diner classic foods. Really a combination of Italian food and American food. You’ve got the red sauce and the beef, little bit of cheese the macaroni. A huge portion, served with a big piece of garlic bread and a salad. In terms of value, this will take you back to the 60’s. it’s a huge plate of food for about thirteen bucks.
If you having a bad day and you need a big hug. Try our American chop suey. You'll feel a lot better.
I'm not sure that I have this power but I command all Phantom Gourmet fans. Call your mom and dad right now say you're going back to the 60’s at the 60’s Diner in Norwood.
