Pommery
There's real potential at Pommery in Natick, and with a little attention to detail, this could become a great restaurant.
Atmosphere(7.5)
Nicely decorated with yellow walls, dark green carpet and comfortably upholstered chairs. But please, close the blinds! The only view here is of a swimming pool supply store across Route 9.
Menu(8)
Plenty of variety, but geared to palates that are geared to complex flavors. Don't expect simple, steamed, or "lite" anything.
Portions(9)
Really big portions... almost oversized for food that aspires to this level of refinement. Styrofoam boxes are available.
Appetizers(8.5)
Pizzetta varies daily, but always features a wonderfully crispy, wood-grilled crust. Half-order of lemon linguine with black tiger shrimp, lobster, and veggies was perfectly cooked.
Food and Drink(7.5)
Grilled spice-rubbed leg of lamb was delicious, with chunky red-skinned mashed potatoes, grilled green apples, and a colorful roasted red pepper vinaigrette. Petite French rack of veal, an usual way to serve veal chops, was served practically raw. Inconsistent.
Desserts(7.5)
Dense and rich hazelnut tart could have used something more than just whipped cream. Tiramisu was well-made and fluffy, with a tangy raspberry sauce that gave it a little more personality.
Service(7)
A mixed bag. Phantom wishes his nine dollar glass of Cabernet came in an appropriate red wine glass. Waitstaff is enthusiastic and knowledgeable, but a bit forgetful.
Cleanliness(8.5)
Nobody brushed the crumbs off Phantom's white paper-covered tablecloth, but no big deal. The bathroom was immaculate.
Parking(7.5)
Right on the Westbound side of Route 9 in Natick. Parking spaces available right in front of the restaurant.
Value(5)
Entrees average about $19. At these prices, dinner for two can easily pass the $100 mark. The food is too inconsistent to charge such steep prices.
