Peking Cuisine

Newton, Massachusetts offers quite a few Chinese eateries, but Peking Cuisine is one that stands out from the rest.

Atmosphere(7)

Nothing elaborate, but the Phantom gives the benefit of the doubt to any restaurant with a picture of Larry Bird eating there on the wall.

Menu(9)

If there's one thing you can't complain about Chinese Food restaurants, it's the selection. There's about 175 items on the menu.

Portions(8)

They'll be a little left to bring home in those little white boxes. But you won't have "Great Wall of Chinese Leftovers."

Appetizers(8)

Partially perfect Pu Pu Platter. Excellent teriyaki beef and Boneless spare ribs, but the spring rolls and crab rangoons weren't top of the line. Five quality cold appetizer selections as well.

Food and Drink(8.5)

Solid across the board. House special pan-fried noodles was a delight. Beef with black bean sauce perfectly hit the spot. House Special Sizzling Platter with shrimp, beef and chicken far exceeded expectations.

Desserts(7.5)

Ginger ice cream, lemon sorbet, and fried ice cream stand out as a rare treat following a Chinese meal.

Service(8.5)

You'll be seated and served quickly by a very accommodating staff.

Cleanliness(9)

Not a fortune cookie crumb out of place.

Parking(8)

Walnut Street in Newton. The parking lot is spacious.

Value(8)

Appetizers average $5. Pu Pu platter for two costs $13. Main dishes run between $6 and $24. Very reasonable prices.
