North Street Grille
We are not all lawyers and bankers that work Monday to Friday, nine to five and only go out to brunch on Sunday. Brunch is a seven day a week affair. And one of the pioneers of that important food movement is the North Street Grille in the North End of Boston.
Robyn Seidel is the patron saint of pancakes and she has been doing this for 20 years. Their website is best brunch boston.com That's like trash talking and sports, but they back it up.
The North Street Grill is the best brunch in Boston. It's grown over the years to have almost a cult following. Being out on the floor everyday hearing the feedback of how much they enjoyed it. It lives up to its bestbrunchboston.com
North Street Grille is small. There's only about eight bar seats, maybe 10 tables, but that's part of what makes it so fun. And I watch Robin in all because she is really choreographing a very complicated yet perfect dance.
It's like organized chaos. It's a lot of hustle and bustle going on and it's a tight space When it runs like that wow machine and the organized chaos goes right. You're like excited and energized at the end of the day.”
I wake up starving so I love breakfast appetizers including these breakfast nachos.
A lot of people come here and they want to share something. So our breakfast nachos. It’s a mix of all the classics that you would assume on a regular Nacho. But now we're putting bacon. We're putting the eggs on top, along with the classic guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream. They taste amazing.
A sweet way to start your meal here is the Nutella french toast sticks. These are fried they put some Nutella in the middle then they serve it when the side of Nutella
It's a small piece, sweet and crunchy. So we can have a little taste to have something sweet if they're ordering something savory.
I asked Robin the best thing on the menu she said the sweet and salty.
The sweet and salty is probably like one of my favorite things. So it's our classic French toast with scrambled eggs cheddar bacon, made it to a sandwich so instead of just regular egg and cheese. It has little something sweet to add to it.”
The banana bourbon french toast is like a tribute to Bananas Foster the famous dessert in New Orleans. This one has a lot of bourbon. You can really taste it when you slice into these little pieces of banana. I love this dish.
So it's a play on Banana Foster obviously a lot of it’s cooked off but the bourbon definitely comes through on the bananas. Over and over again. It's what people come back for. It’s delicious.
People come to the North End they want to try a cannoli. A lot of people go to Mike’s or Modern Pastry and there's nothing wrong with that, but you may want to try the cannoli pancakes here. They taste like a cannoli. They're layered with ricotta and chocolate chips. Then they take the cannoli crush it up put it inside the pancake, I've never had anything quite like this.
We're in the North End. Everyone comes here wants to try cannoli. I'm not saying I'm competing with the bakeries around me, but I had to do my own little spin with the cannoli pancakes.
The North End Benedict is really different and delicious. It's a pesto Hollandaise over a perfectly poached egg. Instead of your traditional Canadian bacon it has prosciutto, mozzarella tomato slice all over an English muffin. This is a really different kind of dish.
It's going to bring back flavors of what you would expect to see in the North End.
I love Southern food. I was not expecting to find it in the north end. Chicken and Waffles is huge in the South. Here they do chicken and waffle sliders and they add cheese and bacon and a spicy maple syrup. This may be the best thing on the menu.
Oh, my God is the response. It's a very large dish and when people see it come out, their eyes lights up.
The loaded mashed potato omelet is just what it sounds like. It's really a play on a loaded baked potato. It's got mashed potatoes inside sour cream, bacon and it's actually served with a side of breakfast potatoes. Now usually not for the breakfast potato here I make an exception because these are thick cut really crispy and salty just the way I like.
Our omelets are huge. It's a play on the loaded baked potato. But it's mashed potatoes, bacon chives, cheddar cheese, sour cream. It's very filling. You'll definitely need a nap after this one.
For lunch I like to order into the strength of any given menu here in the North End, you're steps away from the ocean so they're not a handle lobster and of course pasta is the main food group which is why I love this Truffled Mac and Cheese.
So it's a classic mac and cheese. So it's a mixture of mozzarella Parmesan cheddar with a Bechemel sauce. We add lobster peas and the truffle oil. It's delicious.
If you'd like to go to brunch Tuesday at 10am or Thursday at 2pm have some brunch and party. Well, we should be friends and you should definitely meet me at North Street Grille in the North End.
