Munchies and Milkshakes
Have you ever had a case of the munchies?
“Snickers, Kit Kat, M&Ms.
A Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.
Pizza grilled cheese.
A real deal Italian sub.
A chocolate chip cookie or an Oreo cookie
Twix. M&Ms. Snickers. Milky Way.
Marshmallow fluff. Strawberry ice cream, Fruity Pebbles.”
I mean REALLY had the munchies.
“Breakfast sandwiches, waffles, sundaes, ice cream cones, ice cream dishes. Anything you have a craving for we have.”
Well you can satisfy your sugar fix and a whole love more when you visit Munchies and Milkshakes.
Located in Hull, Munchies and Milkshakes is your one stop shop for all kinds of colorful, craveable, crazy creations. From sweet to savory, and everything in between. And the man behind all this munchie madness is Dan Leuken.
“I’m a foodie, man. I love food. I love making food. I love making people happy with food. So I figured whatever I do has to have food involved in it no matter what it is.”
“Dan is a perfectionist. His taste buds are one in a million. There’s a reason why I call him Dantastic because he is more than fantastic. He is Dantastic.”
So ‘Dan-tastic’, his fantastic wife Denise and their longtime friend, Tricia Tuggle have created a wonderfully whimsical spot where customers can’t help but be happy.
“It feels like happiness when you walk in and you see the multi colors you see smiling faces of the workers. You feel a sense of happiness. Everyone seems to be smiling when they walk in the door til they leave the door.”
Describing the food at Munchies and Milkshakes as over-the-top doesn’t even begin do it justice. Especially when it comes to the insanely inventive Cotton Candy Burrito.
“Cotton Candy Burrito is a big huge puff of cotton candy, with a couple scoops of your choice of ice cream, three toppings, all rolled together into a big tight burrito.”
“It’s awesome. You open it up with all the toppings start pouring out of it. It looks like a burrito stuffed piñata with candy and ice cream.
“You can pick it up with your hands and eat it. You can eat it with a fork and knife just like you would eat a regular burrito. But this one’s cold. It’s like Chipotle but ice cream.”
And after seeing an ice cream filled burrito made out of cotton candy, getting a milkshake might seem boring, but that’s definitely not the case here, especially if you order something like the “What’s up Buttercup”.
“It’s like peanut butter overload. If you love peanut butter, that’s it We start by rimming the cup with chocolate frosting and then we put the Reese’s Pieces around the rim. Then we put a little bit of Reese’s Pieces in the cup, chocolate sauce, peanut butter sauce, chocolate peanut butter ice cream, and then we top it with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, peanut butter sauce, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, Reese’s Peanut Butter treat, and some more crushed Reese’s Pieces on top.”
Prefer some cake with your shake? Then try the aptly named “This Shake Takes the Cake”.
“Oh, that is a cake lovers dream. You start off with cake batter milkshake. You rim that cup with vanilla frosting, and you just drizzle some crushed Oreos on that. And then you put a big slice of chocolate cake on top, put a couple of Hershey’s cookies and cream bars on the side. And on top of the piece of cake we stick a little double stuffed Oreo.”
Even though this place is called Munchies and Milkshakes, they get just as creative when it comes to their sundaes. Take for example the Hot Mess. This giant cup is overloaded with vanilla ice cream, a rocky road brownie, milky ways, chocolate sauce and caramel sauce, all topped with whipped cream and Oreo crumbles, so naming it was pretty easy.
“Cuz it’s a hot mess.”
For something less messy and more magical, there’s the colorful Unicorn Sundae.
“The unicorn sundae is two scoops of cotton candy ice cream, with blue raspberry syrup, strawberry syrup, unicorn sprinkles, and whipped cream and a unicorn horn pop it is very much one of a kind.”
The ice cream sandwiches here are pretty unique too, since they’re made with your choice of donuts. Or you can indulge in a fluffy Belgian waffle topped with strawberry ice cream, marshmallow Fluff and fruity pebbles cereal or the ‘Candy Shop Waffle’, with Snickers, Kit Kats, Milky Ways, and M&M’s.
“Every girl loves chocolate. So it’s the perfect, perfect dessert for a Monday night when you had a rough day at work. You take a nice bubble bath and then you have one of the candy shop waffles.”
If you want that waffle fix with something savory, they’ve got that covered too, with the always insta-worthy ‘Reuben Waffle’.
“The Reuben waffle is amazing. You get all sorts of flavor explosions happening from the cheese to the sauerkraut and sauce plus the savory waffle. All the flavors just hit you all at once and you can’t stop taking bites.”
Other savory options include this mash up of pizza and grilled cheese, stuffed with tomato sauce, pepperoni, and lots of melty mozzarella, an overloaded Italian sandwich and something named the ‘Danny Classic’ made on Portuguese Muffin French Toast, and stuffed with cheese, egg, bacon and sausage, this breakfast bonanza was actually created by Dan’s son.
“My son’s little Danny, and he actually invented the sandwich.”
“Hi, I’m Danny and this is my sandwich. It’s called the Danny Classic, it was based off of a McGriddle from McDonald’s. I like it because it’s got all that stuff in it. All the bacon in the sausage. It’s really good.”
But don’t just take Danny’s word for it. The next time you need something sweet, satisfying and different, just head straight to Munchies and Milkshakes.
“Nobody else does what we do. We’re one in a million. We can satisfy every one of your munchie needs that you have.”
