Mickey’s NY Pizza
Vodka and Roni pizza, chopped Italian subs, Nashville hot chicken fries. There are some food trends that are definitely worth traveling to. And that's how we ended up here in Derry, New Hampshire, and an unbelievable place called Mickey's New York Pizza. When it comes to serving food that is super tasty and incredibly Instagrammable. These guys are absolutely crushing it.
Now Mickey’s has been around for a while, they've been open since 1983. But over the past few years, it's been run by the Nasser family specifically by three sisters, Tammy, Rebecca and Angie, and along with their father Tony, these guys are pumping out an incredible amount of food out of a very small but extremely busy kitchen. This place has the look of an Old School New York pizzeria. You have the checkered tile floors, license plates up on the wall, tomato cans everywhere, the neon signs, and the big menu board, they also do pizza by the slice here which is something you don't see anymore.
So the atmosphere is definitely old school but the menu is extremely trendy. This is the sandwich that has made Mickey's go viral across the internet. It is the chopped Italian sub. Basically it's everything you know what love about a nice Italian sub, but chopped up super fine, stuffed in a roll, and ready for you to stuff your face. Here's how the chopped Italian sub is made. You have some ham, mortadella, capicola (some call it gabagool), salami, provolone cheese, they throw in some homemade Italian dressing that has roasted red pepper in there and all those veggies: tomatoes, pickles, onions, banana peppers, shredded lettuce, throw on some oregano, mix everything all together and the roll is always toasted. And in goes the entire chopped Italian sub. Alright, let's get a taste of this viral sensation over here: Chopped Italian sub. This thing is an A plus, I can see why this baby is going viral. You really do get a taste of every single item in every single bite. It’s the messiest, most delicious Italian I think I've had, certainly in New Hampshire.
Another big food trend these days is Nashville hot chicken and here in Mickey's you can get a Nashville hot chicken pizza or even better get the Nashville hot chicken fries. The base of course you got the fries, some cheese, you're throwing some nice chopped chicken and some bacon you got to put in that Nashville hot sauce that has a really good kind of kick and it's finished with a drizzle of their homemade spicy mayo. So when this comes out of the oven, you stick a fork in this thing, the cheese just keeps on pulling. It's kind of like if Canadian poutine traveled to Nashville, Tennessee. You have the kick of pepper with a creaminess of the mayo it's a side dish but basically this thing eats like an entree.
If you go to a lot of sub shops I'm sure you know what a steak bomb is. But here they have a burger bomb. It starts with a big half pound fresh ground burger, they throw on some bacon, some salami pepperoni and of course you need your veggies, onions, peppers, mushrooms, throw on some pepper jack cheese pile that onto a nice grilled brioche bun. I promise this sandwich is going to be an absolute mess to eat. But I also promise you you will not regret one bite.
Pizzas are the number one sellers here at Mickey's. Here's a pizza I'm definitely obsessed with. It's called the Pesto Blast. So on here you have pesto which has tons of cheese and garlic flavor, some fresh tomato and sun dried tomato feta cheese and mozzarella cheese. It’s a beauty to look at, great one to eat. Great one to get for takeout.
This one is called the Loaded Potato pizza. Lots of cheese and tons and tons of bacon bits are thrown on there. Then they pipe on creamy homemade mashed potatoes. Finish it off with some jalapenos and fresh scallions and a drizzle of their homemade ranch. Basically, it's everything you love about a loaded baked potato just put into pizza form.
But this is the one you gotta get: the Vodka and Roni Sicilian pizza. This one starts with that classic Sicilian dough that's nice and firm. Of course, you got plenty of cheese on there and there is a ridiculous amount of pepperoni on this pizza. But the real key to this pizza is the homemade vodka sauce and to kick it up with even more flavor a hot honey drizzle right over the top. You got sweetness, you got spiciness, and that homemade Sicilian crust is so nice and sturdy. It can really hold up all those toppings. And in terms of taste. This is crazy. That is so good. Crispy on the bottom, airy on the inside. Smoky, cheesy on top. That my friends is a 10 out of 10 slice. Everything is made in house here at Mickey's including their dessert. In fact, Rebecca makes these fresh every single day- massive brownies, humongous cookies, and of course fresh filled cannoli. So whether you come in for a job to tell you it's a fantastic pizza or a delicious homemade dessert, you’ll be able to experience the next big viral food trend here at Mickey's New York Pizza.
