Elegant old room with dark wood walls, woods floors, area rugs. Overhead candlelight provides just the right touch.

The physical menu is attractive with a nice story of the inn's history and the families that have owned it. Extensive wine list. Daily specials are extremely inventive: Phantom could have chosen bison or ostrich. Vegetarians can get by just fine.

Plates are generally large, coffee served in tiny cups.

Lobster with salsa and homemade focaccia was quite tangy and satisfying. Greek pinwheel of chicken was extremely unique and bursting with the flavor of feta and olives. Cucumber bisque offered between courses to cleanse the palette... wow.

Pan seared tenderloin of beef with asparagus was cooked to a perfect medium rare, served with a delectable cabernet and roasted garlic demi. Milk-fed veal wrapped around gulf shrimp and served over cracked pepper fettuccine was colorful and flavorful, though the shrimp were a bit fishy.

Marble cheesecake was very pretty and with a top-notch graham cracker crust. Strong and hot coffee.

The inn owner will walk right up to, check on your meal. Meal timing is slow, but the service is very professional and smiley.

Cleanliness(10)

Perhaps the cleanest place Phantom has ever dined. No dust or dirt on the furniture, pictures, floors, or bathrooms.

Directly on Route 108 in Durham, New Hampshire. The signs are subtle, so look closely. Parking is not a problem.

Appetizers between $5-13; entrees average $20. This is a destination restaurant that won't disappoint when the check comes.
