Lakon Paris Patisserie
For over 30 years, the Phantom Gourmet has been on a mission to make New Englanders hungry, and after shooting 1000s of restaurants, I don't know if we have ever seen food as lip smacking and eye popping and mind blowing as right here at Lakon Paris Patisserie. Lakon is an authentic French pastry shop with a few international and Asian twists, and they are famous for their croissants. I mean croissants in every size and shape and flavor and topping and filling imaginable. It all started with Jenny, the owner. She's originally from Thailand. She actually studied at the Le Cordon Bleu in Bangkok and in Paris. And after working at some of the most high end restaurants in Boston, she decided to open up her own pastry shop.
The first Lakon opened up in Newton in 2020… then they came to Brookline and the Boston Seaport, and here in Brighton, this is their flagship location. There's a whole team of their little baking elves that literally work 24 hours a day. So back in the kitchen, you can see them mixing and rolling, shaping and filling, meticulously crafting some of the most beautiful and delicious treats you can find this side of Europe.

Croissants are easily the number one seller at Lakon. That's what everybody comes here for. The most traditional is the butter croissant. This is just like how they do it in Paris. In fact, they import their butter direct from France. On the inside, you can see just how airy and light and delicate it is. All those air bubbles sort of creates this geometric pattern. That's how you know they are real experts at making croissants here. Here's a croissant taste test. So light, so crispy, so flaky…. Buttery, and I love
Another popular choice is the bicolor chocolate croissant. Inside, it's stuffed with what's called Chocolate batons, essentially fancy chocolate chips. And when you combine chocolate with all that butter, the flavors of the chocolate are really enhanced. It coats your entire mouth. Magnifique.
Now on the weekends, that's when things get really busy at Lakon, because that's when they roll out their specialty croissants. They take a good 24 hours to craft each one of them. And let me tell you something, it's worth the wait. This is the top selling specialty croissant, the pistachio mascarpone. This is made with a green, bicolor brioche dough It's sliced down the middle, and then it's filled with some pistachio mascarpone cream. And then on top it's garnished with some pistachio praline and toasted pistachios. I can barely get my mouth around this thing I think. Love the contrasting textures between the soft, creamy filling and the crunchy pistachio top. This is like insanely absurdly ridiculously good.
Now you really want to take things to the next level. Check out the strawberry cheesecake croissant. In terms of color and sweetness and deliciousness, it's hard to beat the strawberry cheesecake croissan This is made with a strawberry croissant dough stuffed with white chocolate cheesecake with a strawberry filling, and it's completely smothered on top with dehydrated strawberries. You see this right here? You do not get this at your local bakery. I'm sorry, these guys are the masters.
I mean, just look at this. Have you ever seen a croissant that looks like this? This is the chocolate hazelnut cube croissant. It's a croissant, but in the shape of a cube, and then it is stuffed and it's also topped so you have hazelnut cream on the inside. It's topped with chocolate pastry cream, also has some toasted hazelnuts on top. Rich, smooth, chocolatey, nice pop of that hazelnut crunch. If my geometry lessons in high school included this, I would have been a genius. (bites)
Now you're definitely going to want to circle this one. This is the Ferrero Rocher ring croissant So this is a circular croissant, and it is stuffed with hazelnut cream, a little bit of homemade caramel, and an entire Ferrero Rocher candy right on top and if you look really closely, there's also some edible gold leaf that has been gingerly placed on top of there. So you have chocolate, hazelnut, butter, croissant in a circle. With edible gold. Yeah, it's Pretty good.
Aside from all the croissants, there are some incredibly intriguing pastries and cakes here as well. This is one of my personal favorite pastries here, this giant macaron. It's about four times the size of your standard macaron cookie. It's actually a rose and lychee macaron. So this is made in the traditional French style with the almond paste. So the cookie is nice and flaky and crumbly. It's piped inside with some rose raspberry cream and some lychee cream. So this has that perfect combination of traditional French with some Asian ingredients. I guess I just eat it like a burger. Why not? This might be the best thing on the menu. It's awesome.
People always ask me, does the food really taste as good as it looks on your show? And in this case, the answer is unbelievably yes, some of the best looking food I have ever seen, and it tastes perfect. So you might come here for the viral, crazy croissants, but honestly, this might end up being your favorite everyday bakery. Everything is exceptional at Lakon Paris Patisserie.
