La Hacienda

The biggest ethnic dining trend in the North East in the past few years has been Mexican Cuisine. La Hacienda in Nashua, New Hampshire offers one of New England's finest Mexican restaurants.

Atmosphere(7)

Lacks a little luster. But the cacti, adobe-like walls , and the dinge feel authentic. You're in the middle of controlled chaos.

Menu(10)

Everyone can find something to salivate over. From tree-huggers to phat-phobes, to the most unabashed carnivores.

Portions(10)

You can hear it all over this place, "OH my God, I could never eat all that!" Portions big enough for cowboys and couch potatoes.

Appetizers(8)

"Mexican fire crackers", crisp deep-fried jalepeno peppers and cheese were delightful. Chips good 'n' crunchy. Phantom was caught off-guard by how spicy the salsa was, but he loved it anyway.

Food and Drink(8)

This ain't no taco bell. Juicy grilled shrimp, tender strips of jerk beef, plump quesadillas. Margaritas sufficiently limey and packed plenty of tequila. Seafood burrito made even tastier with spicy black beans? Phantom's only beef: skinny burritos.

Desserts(7)

The fresh fruit cup and chocolate raspberry ice cream just add to the gluttony. Both are fairly forgettable.

Service(9)

Efficient, friendly, and fast with the margaritas.

Cleanliness(7)

How clean could a chips, salsa, and margarita place with dim lighting possibly be? The bathrooms are a bit ookie.

Parking(7)

Easy to find on DW Highway 1 mile north of the Pheasant Lane Mall, but the parking lot is a congested mess. Carpool incentives should be offered.

Value(9)

About $8 per entree. The prices are competitive with chain restaurants, but the a bigger and more inspired menu.
