J.J. Grimsby & Co.
With the help of an interior decorator, J.J. Grimsby & Co. in Stoneham could elevate this casual family restaurant to the status of Gourmet Greatness.
Atmosphere(7)
This place could use a little refurbishing. The dark wood bar and dingy dining room give it a tired feel. But, Phantom was pleasantly surprised to find hand painted murals in the bathroom.
Menu(9)
The type of menu Phantom wants to frame. Tons of great American options from burgers to chicken to steaks to seafood to pasta. Even a few wraps and Mexican entrees.
Portions(8)
Most entrees are on the large side. Huge sides of French fries. Incredibly huge 24 ounce porterhouse steak.
Appetizers(8)
Great, crisp salads. Quality homemade soups. Above average on all Phantom's favorites including: potato skins, chicken fingers, buffalo wings, and even the infamous Bloomin' Onion.
Food and Drink(8)
Simple, fresh, and tasty across the board. Great overstuffed Deluxe Roast Turkey and Tuna Melt sandwiches. Hearty crock of chili served in a mini boule loaf with plenty of melted cheddar cheese and onions. Steak tips made Phantom lick his lips.
Desserts(7)
Rich and filling chocolate mousse cake. But, skip the fried ice cream. And that's the first time Phantom has ever said that.
Service(7)
Pleasant but uninspired young host was sloppily dressed, a real turn-off. But Phantom's server performed admirably.
Cleanliness(6)
Get the scrub brush, please. A spilled drink was left on the floor. Wallpaper was on the grimy side.
Parking(8)
On the Lynn-Fellsway on the Stoneham/Melrose line. Large parking lot could use a repaving.
Value(8)
Appetizers cost about $6. Entrees range from $7 to $17. Take Phantom's advice and stick with the apps and a sandwich or burger, and you'll have a great meal for only a few bucks.
