Girard’s Bistro
Girard's Bistro has just what the Boomers in booming Franklin have been looking for: creative continental cuisine that rivals the big boys in Boston.
Atmosphere(9)
Yet another storefront restaurant in a small shopping plaza, Girard's is cozy and intimate. Dim lighting and subtle decor instill a relaxed atmosphere. A bar area is under construction.
Menu(9)
Variety may be the spice of life, but it does not define Girard's menu. Menu is somewhat limited, but very imaginative. About ten entrees along with chicken, beef, and fish specials.
Portions(9)
Considering the quality and presentation, very good.
Appetizers(8)
Roasted Red Pepper Ravioli was tasty but a tad on the tepid side. Wild mushrooms sauteed in port wine over puffed pastry provided a welcome variation of the standard 'shroom appetizer. Mesclun salad with gorgonzola was excellent.
Food and Drink(9)
Mahi Mahi was magnificent magnificent. Shrimp Scampi with portabello mushroom, roasted garlic, and pine nuts over linguine was awe-inspiring. Grilled tuna with spinach risotto was nicely presented, though perhaps a bit overcooked. Extensive wine list and the Harpoon My Bock Tap was a fine touch indeed.
Desserts(8)
Limited dessert menu, but Jeffrey's own Cheesecake/ key lime pie combo was a satisfying conclusion.
Service(10)
Owner/ chef Jeffrey Girard is extremely hospitable, as is his extremely personable staff.
Cleanliness(10)
Dining room was immaculate, bathroom was even more so.
Parking(8)
Right in the heart of Franklin on Route 140. Keep your eyes peeled, it's tucked away in a little shopping plaza. Parking can be tight on the weekends.
Value(9)
Appetizers from $6 to $7. Entrees between $16 and $20. At least 10% cheaper than a similar meal in Boston.
