Fishermen’s View
There aren't that many restaurants that have super fresh seafood and amazing Ocean View, and there's even less that own their own boats and their own massive tanks to keep the lobster and crab perfectly fresh, but they have all that at Fishermen's View in Sandwich on Cape Cod. This place is right on Cape Cod canal, and the windows let you see the ocean from just about every seat. The boats are coming in and out all day and night.
“Fishermen's view is kind of a play on words. It's the view, but it's also a fishermen's view of what we think we should be doing selling it right directly to the public, whether it's retail or through our dishes here in the restaurant.”
Owner Bobby Colbert was a fisherman for decades before he opened this restaurant. This man is a fish freak. I'm pretty sure he eats algae and worms for breakfast. Bobby owns the restaurant with his brother, Denny. Bobby's GM is Rich DeAngelis.
“Fishermen's view is a family owned restaurant... We are a boat to table restaurant, which makes it very special for us. The restaurant owns three boats, one scallop boat, two lobster and crab boats.”
If you come to this restaurant, I think you've got to get the crab cakes, that is really the best thing that they do here. They've got paprika and panko bread crumbs. They're fried with tons of fresh crab. And look at that thing that is just jam packed with crab. Wow.
“One of our featured appetizers is our crispy Jonah crab cakes. It is fried, so it's got a nice crunch on the outside, but it's soft and delicious on the inside, perfect.”
You know, at most restaurants, if you get a seafood tower, you just have to accept what's on the menu. Here, you can do a build your own bucket, and I think you gotta do it. This one has shrimp and crab, cocktail sauce, horseradish, a dijonaise. But here's the beauty of this restaurant, you can add oysters, make it bigger, make it smaller. It's my seafood fantasy come true.
“Our Jonah crab Empress claws are absolutely sweet, succulent and delicious. So what we've created here is the Empress claws that are already scored and cracked, and you have the ease of eating them like a shrimp cocktail with our dijonaise dipping sauce.”
If you're here on a rainy or snowy day, you may want to get the mac and cheese. It's just so comforting, big chunks of lobster spiral pasta and a house made cheese that really takes to that pasta.
“So what we did here is we created a lobster mac and cheese with our house-made Velveeta like cheese. For the people that don't realize that they love lobster, yet, they can get it without but if you know, you know, so add the warm, buttered hand shucked lobster to the mac and cheese.”
I love to get a sushi boat. I just think it looks super cool, and it pays tribute to those hard working fishermen that put this fresh fish on your plate. This one is all salmon you have sushi nigiri and sashimi.
“We have an amazing sushi team. Here we roll everything hand rolled to order. It is definitely worth the wait. It's colorful, vibrant and wonderful.”
I love boxing, so I've been on the wrong end of a lot of knuckle sandwiches. But this knuckle sandwich, I fully support. It's really a BLT with a lot of lobster, bacon, lettuce, tomato on a buttery Texas toast.
“It is a BLT on steroids, because we're going to add some of our own lobster from our own boat add some guacamole and some mayo. It is something that when you bite into it has that crunch, but the creaminess of the lobster, it is on some buttered texas toast, which makes it even more special. This is the best sandwich in Sandwich!”
Normally, at a restaurant like this, I'm sticking with the seafood, but here a house specialty is the Smashburger. It has that great sear two patties, American cheese, house made pickles. You can add bacon, but since we're on Cape Cod, I say you add lobster.
“Our Smashburger is super indulgent. It's a double Angus smashburger. It's served with our house made pickles, onions, our secret sauce, which is like a gourmet Big Mac sauce on a buttered brioche roll. It is absolutely amazing.”
You've heard of Farm to Table, well, this is fish to table. You're looking at the ocean, and you are tasting the flavor of the ocean in every bite. You can start with sushi. You can get a seafood entree. You can get seafood to go, but you gotta go to Fishermen's View and sandwich on Cape Cod.
“Fantastic food with fantastic views!”
