Fin Point
If there’s one type of food Boston is famous for, it’s seafood. So, let’s check out one of the hottest seafood restaurants in the city: Fin Point Oyster Bar and Grille. Fin Point is located in The Dagny, which is a beautiful boutique hotel on Broad Street in Boston’s Financial District. And ever since they opened up in 2016, Fin Point has become one of the neighborhood’s most popular spots for business lunches, delicious dinners, craft cocktails, and all kinds of special occasions. This is really a stunning, sophisticated space. And according to Fin Point’s Director of Events Katie Lofstrom, the atmosphere here was designed to compliment the menu.
“When you enter Fin Point, you feel warmth and elegance, just modern comfort. And if you look closely, you'll see in all the details that we have a focus on nautical elements like our octopus style lamps or the copper diving helmet on our oyster bar.” You can also take a seat at our beautiful oyster bar and watch your oysters being shucked straight out of the waters from Duxbury or Wellfleet.”
All the seafood arrives daily here, so the raw bar is definitely popular. You might want to order up some pristine oysters with apple cider mignonette and housemade cocktail sauce. Or crack into some sweet and delicious chilled lobster tails. Or even better, just go all-in and order up the Cold Seafood Tower. It comes in two tiers, beautifully presented, with some Duxbury oysters and countneck clams on the bottom, along with lobster, salmon tartare, and some absolutely perfect jumbo cocktail shrimp on top. That’s my kind of starter. But the top selling appetizer is the Trio of Tuna Tacos. The wonton taco shells are just so golden and crunchy, and you get a little burst of freshness from the micro cilantro on top.
“Our tuna tacos are somewhat famous. They've also been on the menu since we opened in 2016. Fresh crispy wontons are fried to order, and inside them the ahi tuna diced with spicy mayo and guacamole with little sriracha dots, they are just like the perfect snack.”
Beyond seafood, Fin Point has plenty of options, from burgers and tacos to steaks and flatbread pizzas. Just check out the Sausage and Cherry Pepper pizza. The crust is really light and crispy. You have sweet and savory Italian sausage, some nice heat from the peppers, and plenty of parmesan over the top. Or, go for the cheesy and creamy Roasted Mushroom flatbread.
“The mushroom flatbread is a fan favorite. It's been on the menu since the very beginning. Fontina cheese and sauteed mushrooms with fresh arugula and a truffle aioli. It's an extra special, more decadent pizza.”
From the grill side of the menu, I’m definitely a big fan of the Steak Frites “au poive”... which is just a fancy way of saying “steak, fries, and pepper”. So, here’s what’s on the plate. An eight ounce Coulotte steak from the top sirloin, it’s pepper crusted, and served sliced over a pool of rich and creamy au Poive sauce made with butter, shallots, and peppercorns. Really helps bring out the richness of the beef. And it comes with a generous portion of hand-cut, nicely seasoned French fries. Or you go for the Fin Point Burger, made with decadent Wagyu beef, smoked onion jam, truffle aioli, and Grafton aged cheddar cheese on a fluffy brioche bun.
“It's truly a special, decadent burger, one of a kind. You take a bite of the burger, you can really taste that delicious Wagyu beef. The cheese stands out, the truffle stands out. All the different accompaniments come together to just make the perfect bite.”
But if you ask me, the real “Hidden Jewel” of the menu is the roast chicken, which I honestly think is some of the best roast chicken you can get anywhere in Boston. They get their chickens from Giannone Farm, so this is very high quality, no hormones, no antibiotics. It’s flattened out and seared in the pan to get a nice, crispy skin. Then it’s slow-roasted to keep the meat super juicy, and served with some root vegetables and buttery mashed potatoes, with the pan jus drippings underneath.
And for dessert, all you chocolate lovers gotta get a load of this absolute beauty. The signature Chocolate Mousse Cake certainly looks incredible, you have multiple layers, different textures, and the taste does not disappoint.
“The chocolate mousse cake is light and rich and decadent without being overly sweet. It's creamy, French mousse, chocolate sponge cake, a chocolate ganache topping with an almond toffee crumble, and it's just our go to dessert. A perfect compliment to a wonderful meal.”
So from oysters to espresso martinis, roast chicken to rich steaks, you’ll savor every bite of Fin Point Oyster Bar and Grille on Broad Street in Downtown Boston.
