Eat Greek
I'm on a constant quest for authentic, delicious food. One of the best places to find it is Davis square in Somerville, including a place called Eat Greek.
Eva Tsiantikos and Giannis Leci, they own the place, and they are very serious about their Greek food.
Eat Greek is the newest gem, the newest addition on Davis square, Somerville. It's a fast casual, traditional Greek restaurant with authentic Greek tastes. You're getting fresh, homemade ingredients made every day in house. Giannis is one of my food heroes, because he himself stacks the spits twice a day to make it super fresh and flavorful. The meat is basting in its own juices, and the chef can pull out the fat, pull out the meat at the exact right time. They've been doing this for 1000s of years. They've got their act down, and it is delicious.
The star of the show here, the must try item, as you might expect…The Eat Greek gyro is a monster of gyro. This is the size of a small Greek baby. It's got that pork pulled right off the spit and cooked perfectly french fries, fried halloumi cheese, which I love. It's a mellower cheese than a feta tomato. Eat Greek sauce and a sriracha chili sauce. I am totally Greeking out!
The Pork Dinner is like a deconstructed gyro. You have that beautiful, delicious pile of pork in the middle. It's surrounded by French fries, tzatziki i sauce, onions and tomatoes served with pita bread. So grab that pita, take everything else, stuff it inside, and you have an amazing bite.
This is the chicken and bacon souvlaki. You don't see a lot of bacon at Greek restaurants, but that bacon fat drips right into the chicken. It is so tasty.
So who doesn't like chicken, right? Who doesn't like bacon? So we wanted to combine bacon and chicken together... We throw it on the grill, we cook it just perfect, and then it comes with french fries or rice pilaf. Your definitely you're gonna have leftovers.
I love pita bread. It's a little more dense than bread, perfect for putting things inside, like tzatziki or pork or chicken. Here they have two kinds, your traditional flour pita, but they also do a corn pita, and this is the only place on the Eastern Seaboard that has this particular product. I eat a lot of pita bread. I've never had better than this. Here, you definitely want to get the pita bread served with three different dips. So the tzatziki, we make it fresh in house. It's fresh Greek yogurt with juicy cucumber, dill. and, of course, our secret ingredients. So the tzatziki is great to dip your corn pita, or the traditional pita, or even the souvlaki.
Of all the cuisines, Greek is my favorite for salad. And here there are two salads that I highly recommend. The pomegranate explosion is unusual and delicious. Of course, it's got pomegranates, but it also has big slices of Apple, one of my favorite flavor combinations, which is goat cheese and candied pecans, a balsamic glaze over a bed of greens.
A lot of us, including me, are used to the more Americanized version of a Greek salad. That means it has feta crumbles and lettuce. That's not how they roll in Greece. They do it more village salad style, so they have the big blocks of that delicious feta cheese. There is no lettuce. They have large pieces of tomato, cucumbers, onions, olives, and then they have the extra virgin olive oil and capers, giving it a little bit of salt. I could live on this salad alone.
If you've never had Loukoumades, they are a must try. It's like a gourmet Greek Munchkin, crispy on the outside, pillowy and soft on the inside. And you can go two different directions for toppings, on the sweet side or on the savory side. For savory Loukoumade, this one could almost be an appetizer or a dessert. It's stuffed with feta, and on the outside is sesame seeds and honey. It's a really interesting, unusual flavor, but completely delicious. For sweet, I recommend the nutty delight. It's got hazelnut, praline, white chocolate and pistachios. So it's sweet, it's crunchy, it's soft, it's salty. It has every possible thing that I like. I love these.
For really authentic food in a cool neighborhood, you’ve got to Eat Greek Davis square Somerville. Someone should definitely come here for the atmosphere and the ambience. You always gotta find fresh ingredients. And we had some great music playing in the background. Everybody's super friendly, and we just pretty much we love what we're doing, so we can't wait to see you guys all.
