Deb’s Pilgrim Diner
Deb's Pilgrim Diner in Salem, Massachusetts is the kind of place where you can sit down, grab a quick meal, and learn the life stories of your chef, waitress, and fellow patrons all for under six bucks.
Atmosphere(8)
Seating for about 12 at the counter and 5 booths, this is a tiny classic diner where everyone knows your name. Unfortunately, Phantom stunk like Marlboros for a few days after eating here.
Menu(8)
Breakfast is the primary focus, and it's served all day. Phantom's waitress listed the daily special off as soon as he sat down. All the regulars order items that aren't on the menu.
Portions(8)
Meal portions are ample. But be sure to spring for the large soda or juice, the smalls are almost thimble-sized.
Appetizers(6)
You can go with side orders like sausage, ham, or an English muffin, or you can settle for the sub-par chicken soup.
Food and Drink(8)
Corned beef hash was hot and fried to a perfect outside crispiness, and loaded with chunks of potatoes. Phantom's waffle was literally prepared the moment he ordered it. Outstandingly juicy turkey was the special of the day, available in a dinner or in a club sandwich with well done, but not greasy bacon.

Service(8)
Clearly, the staff makes a point of meeting and knowing patrons and regulars. Phantom enjoyed every minute of the banter and gossip he overheard throughout the diner. But Phantom did but his waitress sneaking a smoke in the corner.
Cleanliness(8)
Chef Ray cleans up after every meal he prepares, but there's no way you could ever keep this place sparkling.
Parking(8)
Right on Boston Street, near the monument in Salem. Street parking as well as a lot behind the restaurant.
Value(9)
Sandwiches starts at $1.50, turkey club for $3.25. Clogged arteries, high cholesterol... and all at very reasonable prices.
