Cloud
The cocktails are smoking. The woks are sizzling. And the atmosphere is eye popping. For a meal that’s a full sensory experience, the destination is Cloud.
Located in the City of Quincy, Cloud Asian Fusion and Bar is one of those hidden away places worth seeking out. Set back in the corner of President Plaza on Quincy Ave, it’s the kind of spot where what you see on the outside is nothing like what you’ll find once you step inside.
Jeffrey Huang – Owner/GM, Cloud: “When you first walk in here people are like, ‘Oh my God, this place is so nice. I've never seen anything like this.’ And I agree with them.”
That’s Jeffrey Huang, who opened Cloud with a few friends in the Summer of 2023. And they made sure the design of this 60-seat spot would blow people away.
Jeffrey Huang – Owner/GM, Cloud: “I think our decor is so unique. You come in here you see concrete walls with exposed rebar. You see hands sticking out of the wall with greenery coming out, you see hanging vines, you see a long sexy black chain, it's kind of like taking a step into another world. And it leads you to a world of amazing food, great drinks, amazing friendly staff, and honestly just a good ambiance.”
When it comes to the food, the presentation here can be as dramatic as the décor, with a mouthwatering menu of Asian fusion dishes.
Jeffrey Huang – Owner/GM, Cloud: “Asian fusion is really just taking modern contemporary cooking techniques, and combining it with flavors from all around the world to elevate the dish. When you eat our food, it should taste like an explosion of flavors, something that you've never had anywhere else.”
We’ll get to the food in a minute, but your visit to Cloud should really start with a cocktail, because nothing gets the party started like “The Influencer.”
Jeffrey Huang – Owner/GM, Cloud: “We have a drink called The Influencer, which is pretty much our signature drink. And in today's world, everybody wants to be an influencer. So we wanted this drink to be something that's a head turner, it catches everyone's eye. So what happens is that it'll come in a treasure chest, the drink is put inside so the minute you open it, the smoke just drapes over the chest and onto the table. And it reveals the drink right in the middle. It's like a chest of gold.”
And of course, this tasty mix of tequila, guava, and citrus has become a social media star.
Jeffrey Huang – Owner/GM, Cloud: “The minute you put that down on the table, everyone at the table will pull out their phones with flash, ready to record. So that's everyone's perfect opportunity to become an influencer.”
When you’re ready to put down the phone and eat, there are delicious appetizers like fluffy Bao stuffed with Peking Duck; XO Scallops served atop vermicelli noodles; Classic Pork and Shrimp Shumai; and sticky sweet and spicy Hot Honey Hoisin Spareribs.
Jeffrey Huang – Owner/GM, Cloud: “In a traditional Chinese restaurant, you'll find barbecue spareribs. But we took that and we cook them sous-vide style overnight. And then we throw an amazing tasting hot honey glaze over it. And they fall right off the bone. Each and every bite.”
Another spin on a Chinese food classic is Cloud’s Lobster Rangoon.
Jeffrey Huang – Owner/GM, Cloud: “We really want to elevate everyday dishes. So you can find Crab Rangoon at any other restaurants, but you will never find Lobster Rangoon like the ones we have.”
When it comes to entrees, there are lots of tempting options, but if you’re hungry for a dish that’s as dramatic as it is delicious, look no further than the luxurious Lobster Fried Rice.
Jeffrey Huang – Owner/GM, Cloud: “If you’re feeling kind of bougie, or you’re just feeling really fancy you should come here and try our lobster fried rice. What we do is we take up the lobster, we cut it up for you, we toss in the salt pepper seasoning, and then we throw that on top of egg fried rice. And it's just a really fun dish. And especially the presentation that we put that in. It’s going to come in a crescent moon shaped plate, and it hangs on this big bow. It has a smoky effect. And when you bring it out they’re like, ‘oh my god, what is that? I really want to record this, snap a picture. Oh my God take a photo of me with this dish.’ It truly is just an experience in itself.”
If you’d like to experience a dish with a little kick, check out the Fire Street Noodles.
Jeffrey Huang – Owner/GM, Cloud: “We call it fire because it has shaved chili pepper on top, so it does have that fire element to it. The spiciness. And then they top it off with actually a sunny side up egg. And every time we bring it out it's just full of color, it's vibrant, and most importantly it's full of flavor.”
Other flavor forward entrees include the Cloud Steak featuring a perfectly cooked Ribeye atop pea pod leaves, served with black pepper sauce, or the sweet and savory Mango Mayo Shrimp.
Jeffrey Huang – Owner/GM, Cloud: “Mango Mayo Shrimp is our take on a traditional honey walnut shrimp that you find in other restaurants. So we really wanted to bring a freshness to the dish. So our mango mayo is made from blended fresh mango. And we also add diced fresh mangoes on top of the dish. It’s pretty much just these large jumbo shrimp, deep fried, tossed in the mango mayo, and then we finish it off with fresh mango, and a little bit of chili powder. It’s really nice.”
And from the fresh flavors to the flashy presentations to the funky atmosphere, a meal at Cloud will leave you feeling like you’re floating on air.
Jeffrey Huang – Owner/GM, Cloud: “I'm a firm believer that when you go out to eat it's not solely about the food and drinks but it's about the experience as a whole. So when you combine the food, the drinks, the staff, the music, and just the whole vibe in here, it's like stepping into a different world and then when you step back out you're like ‘whoa was that a dream?’”
