Bistro Zampano

The Phantom has always considered himself a jinx, and the night he showed up to Bistro Zampano in Lenox, Mass, they actually had a fire. But Phantom still enjoyed his meal at this fun and funky eatery.

Atmosphere(7.5)

The term "bistro" conjures up stylish and chic, but this place has more of a pizzeria atmosphere with tile floors, booths, and plastic chairs. But it's fun, and outdoor dining under a tent is available.

Menu(7.5)

Wide selection with everything from burgers to polenta lasagna to Jamaican jerk chicken to Japanese tuna rolls. Quite inventive for a small, casual restaurant.

Portions(8)

Above average, just like Phantom's weight.

Appetizers(8)

Tender and delicious chicken satay with a delectable peanut sauce. Jalapeno poppers always make a top notch pub-like appetizer, and these did not disappoint. Salad bar was a nice offering.

Food and Drink(8)

Sri Lankan chicken curry was an interesting mixture of spicy seasoning and cool coconut milk. Maine crab cakes were scrumptious and loaded with crab. Phantom's margarita was tangy and refreshing; the house wine was standard.

Desserts(8)

Chocolate turtle pie was a decadent combination of chocolate and caramel; pumpkin flan was light, airy, and delicious.

Service(7.5)

Cheery and helpful waitstaff. They don't panic in the face of adversity, like the fire they had just before Phantom walked in the door.

Cleanliness(7)

A little messy (one table went more than 5 minutes before it was cleared). But the bathrooms were clean.

Parking(7.5)

The Berkshires are always beautiful; points for convenience (it's is on a main road), and it's easy to find. Decent parking lot.

Value(8)

Good eats for reasonable prices. Lunches run under $10 and dinners cost under $20. Phantom always feels like he's getting his money's worth if there's a salad bar.
