Bernard’s, Cohasset

Bernard and Sheila O'Neil set out last fall with the idea that Cohasset needed a gourmet restaurant. And they have succeeded with "Bernard's", which is close to sold out every day.

Atmosphere(8)

Classic bistro style establishment with limited seating. Small and a bit noisy, so try and grab a table in the greenhouse area.

Menu(9)

A perfect cross section of fish, beef, pork, and pasta... all with an impressive presentation. Always exciting special menu.

Portions(8)

They don't just serve you a dollop of this or a dollop of that. The portions are hefty, especially for this level of refinement.

Appetizers(9)

Fried ravioli stuffed with duck, ginger, garlic, and sesame and apricot glaze was like a giant spring roll, only better. Very crisp and not greasy. Shrimp Fritter, a shrimp tempura with crispy vegetables with balsamic and port syrup was sublimely unique.

Food and Drink(8)

Roasted chicken prepared with mozzarella, prosciutto, spinach, and roast garlic was almost overpowered with flavor. Pan-fried sole with spinach and mushroom was well-presented, with a subtle lobster sauce that was rather enjoyable.

Desserts(9)

Expertly prepared Crème Brulee with a hard caramel shell just melted in Phantom's mouth. Ice cream stuffed pastries with caramel and chocolate were gigantic and delicious.

Service(8)

Hostess and part owner Sheila O'Neil works the dining room quite well. Phantom's waiter was efficient almost to the point of being robotic, sometimes servers need a little personality.

Cleanliness(9)

Pretty much a spotless environment. You have to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom, but both are clean.

Parking(9)

Just a few steps away from the historic Cohasset Common, a great place to walk after dinner. Ample parking, street and lot.

Value(9)

Appetizers range from $5-8. Pasta average $14. Entrees between $12-19. A fully satisfying meal, even after paying for it.
