Emma’s Pub & Pizza
One of the number one questions we get from Phantom Gourmet fans is is Ron Emma really crazy? Well, we're here at Emma’s in Bridgewater to find out.
The Andelman’s say I’m crazy. I’m not crazy. Hi, I'm Ron Emma Welcome to Emma's Pub and Pizza. Oh that’s good. I’ve got to do it again.
In my 30 years of food journalism, not at Prince pizza, not at Kowloon, not at Anthony's Pier 4 have I ever seen this, a life sized statue of the owner above the front door.
Ron why is there a statue of you on the top of your restaurant?
Because I’m on an ego trip.”
Although Ron is a restaurant Hall of Famer, I have to tell you some of his methods of operating and marketing a restaurant are unorthodox. Rons picture is absolutely all over this restaurant.
There is a Ron Emma bobblehead doll. And I have to say the likeness is extraordinary. I don't know where you can find a rug with your own picture on it. And I don't know why anybody would want that. But that's how Ron welcomes you here. Ron may be a little crazy, but he's been in the business for decades and the guy does know how to run a fun restaurant with tasty food.
Value never goes out of style. My prices are low. Our portions are absolutely huge. I'm losing money on some things, but I really don't care.
When you walk in the restaurant, you can go to the left and go to the bar. It's a big rectangular bar. There's TVs and jukebox, popcorn, lots of beers. Really, really fun. If you go to the right, there's a regular dining room. Ron has the jukebox. So as soon as I come in, I buy about $20 worth of country on the jukebox, which Ron absolutely hates.
Oh no, here comes Andelman’s awful country music. We're dying over here!
God will never make a better food combination than a 25 ounce draught beer and free popcorn.
I absolutely love free bar popcorn.
We serve free popcorn because it’s cheaper than bread.
I think the three food groups of any pub are really pizza, beer and chicken wings. Chicken wings here come in a bunch of varieties. I like the buffalo bone in.
Our wings are addictive. You'll never want any others. They're that good.
The main attraction here is the south shore bar pie cooked in the pan, small individual pizza made with that great several cheese blend, crispy, buttery, great hanging out and drinking food.
The most controversial pizza today is unquestionably the Hawaiian pizza; made with ham and pineapple. I used to be totally against this pizza. I have done a food flip flop because the ham is salty and the pineapple is sweet and it really works with a bar pie.
This great burger menu here. My favorite is the Maverick
The Maverick is two patties piled high with most every topping you can get on a hamburger but if whatever way you want it will make it. You have to lean wearing my burger or you’ll be wearing it.
Ron says This burger is bigger than my head.
Our burgers are definitely bigger than Dave Andelman’s head.
Another trademark here at Emma's is the Titanic lobster roll. This is a half pound of lobster served with french fries and coleslaw. This is the king of the lobster roll world. I've never seen a dish quite like the Seafood Tsunami. Usually I have to choose whether you're gonna get a lobster roll or a fried seafood platter.
You're definitely gonna have a hard time finishing the seafood tsunami. Our portions are so big you're gonna break be bringing home leftovers.
This has two lobster sliders, fried clams, fried scallops, fried fish and onion rings. I'm not one for sharing but I think this is a good dish to share. This dish is also sold that below market price. I don't know how that's possible, but Ron can do it.
A good option here is the steak tips. This is a big 20 ounce portion. The choices and flavor are barbecue teriyaki and plain. I'm a purist. I get them plain. I really want to taste the meat. I like the fajitas here. They come out sizzling which I love. I like the half chicken half beef variety. Ron refuses to do guacamole. I don't know why but when these fajitas come out, you can smell them from a mile away.
When someone smells our fajitas, they automatically order one.
Although he's known as crazy Ron, he also has an alter ego Ronnie Waffles right across the parking lot, he opened up a place that specializes in fresh made waffles. These are big fresh, delicious waffles. He's also known for his Ronnie tots. You may ask what are Ronnie tots? Well, let's go to the expert.
What are Ronnie Tots? ‘Good question.’
Sometimes when times are tight, you just want to take out a date or take out your family and not break the bank. Well Emma's is a great place to do that.
For what I charge them as you think I'm crazy. My accountant thinks I'm nuts.
Ron Emma is my kind of guy and Emma’s is my kind of spot because there's always something happening.
