Eastern Standard
The baked rigatoni, the butterscotch bread pudding, the Whiskey Smash—these are some of the most iconic dishes and drinks in Boston’s culinary history. And now, they’re back. Located on Beacon Street, just down the road from Fenway Park, the new and, arguably, improved Eastern Standard has returned in a stunning new space.
If you’ve followed the Boston restaurant scene over the past 25 years, you know the name. Eastern Standard first opened in 2005 just down the street, and now it’s been reimagined in a beautiful new building with one of the most impressive dining rooms and bars in the city. Owned and operated by restaurateur Garrett Parker, the vision was to create a place with something for everyone—a high-energy brasserie that captures the spirit of Fenway with classic dishes and standout cocktails.
When dining at a French brasserie, there’s no better place to start than with the French onion soup. This version is done right—served piping hot with onions that have been slow-cooked for hours to bring out their natural sweetness. Rich, cheesy, and deeply flavorful, it’s the perfect beginning to the meal. Another French staple, the steak tartare, is beautifully executed with premium chopped beef, topped with pickled vegetables. Spread onto toasted bread, it’s a simple yet elevated classic.
For something more adventurous, the roasted bone marrow is a must-try. Often described as “meat butter,” it’s rich, soft, and packed with flavor. What sets it apart here is the addition of house-made chili crisp, adding a satisfying crunch and a bit of heat. And once you’re finished, the hollowed-out bone doubles as a “bone luge,” where you can pour in your favorite drink for a playful finish.
While Fenway might be known for hot dogs, the Deluxe Burger at Eastern Standard is on another level. A half-pound of fresh ground beef is stacked with mushrooms, thick-cut bacon, slices of bread cheese, and Dijon spread, all on a toasted brioche bun. It’s incredibly juicy and easily one of the best burgers in Boston. For a more traditional route, the steak frites delivers perfectly cooked, tender beef alongside crispy fries, topped with a rich herb and shallot butter that ties everything together.
Interestingly, the most popular dish isn’t French at all. The baked rigatoni has been the restaurant’s top seller since day one. Made with house sausage, a creamy pink tomato sauce, fresh peas, and perfectly cooked pasta, it’s finished with whipped ricotta and broiled to perfection. The result is a deeply comforting dish with incredible depth of flavor.
The bar has always been the heart of Eastern Standard, and the Whiskey Smash is the cocktail that put it on the map. Made with bourbon, simple syrup, fresh lemon, and mint, it’s refreshing, balanced, and just the right amount of sweet—an ideal way to wind down the meal.
And then there’s dessert. The butterscotch bread pudding is the only thing you really need to know. Made with rich challah bread, it soaks up all the sweetness and flavor before being topped with house-made praline ice cream and finished with a generous drizzle of salted caramel. It’s soft, dense, indulgent, and the perfect ending to a memorable meal.
Eastern Standard in Fenway isn’t just back—it’s better than ever, delivering classic flavors, vibrant energy, and an experience that reminds you why it became a Boston favorite in the first place.
