Smitty’s Pub & Pizza
When it comes to restaurants, I believe in love at first bite, and that's how I felt at Smitty's Pub and Pizza in Taunton.
This is a really intimate small space. There are 14 bar seats, and there's only four or five tables.
There's tributes to local institutions like the firehouse, lots of salutes to Boston sports teams and athletes. The wood panel walls, the jukebox, It all says to me, this is a place I want to stay and hang out.
“It's a neighborhood bar where, when you're on your way home from work, you want to stop for a quick beer and a bite to eat. Everyone's treated like family. We have people from babies to 100 years old that come in here and that love it.”
Brittany Poissant and her husband own this place. She works the bar herself, and I got to tell you, she really hustles.
“We're known for our South Shore bar style pizza, our crispy wings and our house made potato chips, all made with fresh and the highest quality ingredients.”
The South Shore bar pies are the main event here at Smitty’s. These are 10 inch personal pizzas with sauce, cheese and toppings that go all the way to the edge, with a nice, thin, crispy caramelized crust.
“I love this type of pizza. I've grown up with this type of pizza, so when I had the chance to make my own pizza here, I decided that was the type I wanted. All my sauce is freshly made daily.
I take a lot of pride in it, and the quality has to be there or I won't serve it.”
There's 20 toppings on the menu here, but you may want to go with the straight up cheese pizza, a two cheese blend, just the right amount of that homemade sauce. It is crispy and it's not too salty.
“Everyone loves a cheese pizza. Everyone starts with a cheese pizza and makes their way down to all our specialty pizzas. If you have a good cheese pizza, the rest of your pizzas are usually pretty good. This is just the best bar pie.”

The chicken bacon ranch is sort of like a white pizza made with fried chicken and bacon and ranch dressing. It's unbelievable. It's probably one of the top three pizzas we have here that people love.”
When the pizza gets to the table, you can't help but just grab a slice and dunk it into some more ranch.
I love all the Portuguese influence down in these parts. And they have a chicken Mozambique pizza.
“That's a twist on a Portuguese favorite, one of my favorite dishes to eat is Chicken Mozambique dinner.So I knew I had to turn it into pizza. It's marinated chicken, sweet red peppers. That pizza itself takes a little extra love to go to in the oven. You have to make sure the crust is completely to the edge of the pan so the sauce doesn't get underneath it. There's a lot more that goes into the chicken Mozambique pizza, but it's worth it”.
Hardcore Italian food lovers may want the lasagna pizza made with ricotta cheese and a homemade meat sauce. The ricotta cheese and the meat sauce really does give this the taste and mouth feel of a lasagna.
Mamma mia, that's a great bar pie.
You might like Smitty's Burger pizza. This is made with homemade Big Mac sauce, lettuce, and ground hamburger.It's a perfect combination of a burger and a pizza.
“The Smitty’s burger pizza is a take on a fast food favorite. It's loaded with ground beef. It's cooked to perfection. When it comes out, it's topped with lettuce, pickles, and a homemade Big Mac sauce.It's literally like eating a Big Mac. When you take your first bite, you're hooked.”
Nothing goes better with pizza and beers than chicken wings. Here you can get them bone in, or you can get chicken tenders.
There's a pretty great variety of options here, including 13 sauces and five dry rubs.
I went with the spicy garlic parm served with hot sauce and your choice of blue cheese or ranch.
These are my kinds of wings, super fresh, brought out in the basket. I could smell them from about 10 yards away and they taste just as good as they smell.
“Our wings are fresh, they're not frozen. They're fried to order. We do have a lot of sauces. Many of them are house made sauces, our Buffalo sauces are all homemade. We have many dry rubs. You can't go wrong with a good dry rub. You can't go wrong with our wings.”
If you're gonna hang around the bar for a while, and I recommend you do. You may want to get one of my favorite all time bar snacks, the homemade potato chips served with an onion dip to make them even tastier.
“The house made potato chips are crispy. They're seasoned perfectly. They're addictive. They're always served hot. One bite is never enough. You need more and more, usually multiple baskets of House made chips go to a table.”
We're known all over the world for our lobster rolls and our fried clams, but I also think that our South Shore bar pies deserves just as much respect. And you can try a great one at Smitty's Pub and Pizza in Taunton.
“It's hard to explain how much this place means to me, but you definitely have to come in and experience it for yourself. From walking in the front door, you'll be treated like family. Our beer is cold, our pizza is hot, and everyone's super friendly.”
