She’s the princess of pancakes. Famous for her French toast and a guru on the grill. But for hungry customers of Braintree, Massachusetts she’s just Kristin.

“Hi, I’m Kristin Son and welcome to Kristin’s.”

Located on Washington Street in Braintree, Kristin’s Breakfast and Lunch is a sunny spot with lunch counter seating and a casual dining room.   This is truly the ultimate place for breakfast- especially if you like pancakes- lots and lots of pancakes.

“We’re known to having over 25 flavors of pancakes. We have coffee cake, jelly donut, German chocolate Oreo Reese’s Almond Joy, raspberry cheesecake, banana coconut, cornbread, Fluffernutter, S’mores, caramel pecan, birthday, butterscotch, cookie dough, white chocolate macadamia, Boston Cream Pie and M&Ms You can get buttermilk and blueberry anywhere. And it gets people in here to try different things.”

And these pancakes are definitely different and definitely BIG, which usually has customers floored over the flapjacks.

“They usually say something like oh my god, whoa. Oh my god. That’s huge.  How do people eat this? It’s always amazement, usually.”

You can order the German Chocolate pancakes sure to satisfy any chocoholic.  Or the Raspberry Coffee Cake topped with streusel crumbles.  And if you like candy, try the Almond Joy or the Reese’s Peanut Butter cup pancakes.

“So that’s the chocolate batter. And then we throw in the Reese’s crumbles. And then we take a little bit of peanut butter and a little more chocolate syrup. powdered sugar. Perfect.”

For something locally inspired, you can opt for the Fluffernutter or try this spin on a donut and order the Boston Cream Pie

“Boston Cream.  That’s a warm Boston Cream doughnut. So it’s  the buttermilk pancake. And then we have the Bavarian Cream, and then the Hershey chocolate syrup. It’s awesome.”

And if it happens to be your birthday, you gotta get this.

“They want to come here on the birthday so they can get the birthday cake to go along with their breakfast. We take a lot of pictures? A lot of Happy Birthday songs going on in here.  It’s good stuff”

Even though they’re ultra-popular, Pancakes aren’t Kristin’s only specialty.

“So one day, I heard a customer say, ‘could I have the coffee cake French toast?’ And the waitress replied, Oh, I’m sorry. It’s not French toast. It’s a pancake. And they said, Okay, yeah, that’s fine. I’ll take that.  And I said, I know what’s coming up next. Coffee cake French toast.”

And she didn’t stop there, coming up with other outrageous versions like Croissant and Blueberry Cake.

“Blueberry cake French toast.  It’s basically like blueberry bread with dipped in the French toast batter with white icing on top.  It’s delicious.”

And even more indulgent is the Strawberry Shortcake French Toast

“Strawberry shortcake French toast is like nice and light. Awesome little breakfast.  Strawberry Shortcake biscuits in the French toast batter. And then we had strawberries and whipped cream. It looks I guess it looks like strawberry shortcake spread out of a plate. I guess you would know it was French toast and it took a bite into it. You know?”

If you like to start your day with something savory, Kristin’s has got you covered- especially if you like hash.   You can have it traditionally alongside eggs or for something different, on a Benedict.  Either way, you’ll be head over heels for this house-made hash.

“We’re boiling corned beef and we chop it down ourselves. I think the potatoes that we use are particularly important. And the seasonings we use, which are very, very simple, but it’s it’s just a simple hash, and it’s just good. It’s mainly meat.   That’s what makes it good It’s a comfort food. It makes you feel good.”

And the tasty fare continues right through lunch, with oversized Cobb Salads loaded up with lots of chicken and bacon. The ultimate Thanksgiving turkey sandwich, roasted in house and piled high with stuffing and cranberry sauce.

And this sensational short rib grilled cheese.

“It seems to be the thing these days, short rib things on menus.  It’s a good taste. All that cheese. How can you go wrong?”

“You’re gonna come here, they’re gonna get awesome service. We’ve great waitstaff, and we have an awesome menu to pick from and I think will really be happy they came.”
