Fox Creek Tavern
Messy Irish nachos and a trio of seafood sliders.
“I like it so much because you can try so many different things.”
Mac and cheese on its own or stuffed into a grilled cheese sandwich.
“Who doesn’t enjoy mac and cheese and now you have stuff between two pieces of bread.”
And a dedicated family behind it all.
“We love living on the North Shore. It is known for extraordinary food, and we just want to surpass the bar that’s already been set.”
There are just so many reasons to run to the Fox Creek Tavern.
Located in Ipswich, The Fox Creek Tavern is a cozy spot owned by brothers Brad Atkinson and Ryan Cox, and their cousin, Noah Goldstein. After opening several successful restaurants on the North Shore, the trio decided to come together once again to create a spot that you’d want to have in your own neighborhood.
“When you come to the Fox Creek Tavern, we really want you to feel like you’re at home. We want you to be able to come here a few times a week and talk to your server, talk to your bartender and they’ll know your drink before you even sit down.”
So, they created a comfortable dining room complete with lots of rich dark wood, a cozy fireplace inside, and a fire pit outside for customers to gather and enjoy cocktails.
“All the tables are handcrafted wood tables with dark brown leather chairs with fireplaces and a unique lighting throughout the entire restaurant as well.”
And the menu matches the mood, with all of the comfort food coming from the kitchen made in house, from scratch.
“You gotta be a scratch kitchen. You can really taste the difference. You can actually see the difference when the plates presented to you. The flavors are there. You have to put in fresh ingredients to really make the different items pop.”
There’s a little something for everyone on the appetizer menu, like huge, crispy onion rings. Spicy tempura fried bang bang shrimp and a trio of seafood sliders.
“Our seafood trio are three smaller brioche sandwiches. It is a small shrimp po boy. It is a small Haddock sandwich. And it’s a small lobster roll. But it’s a big dish I’ve never finished all three.”
The jalapeno rangoons are truly unique and a must try at Fox Creek.
“We use a fresh wonton and we actually stuffed it with jalapeno, onions, bell peppers, cream cheese and some other spices and we lightly fry them and serve them with an apricots sweet chili that we make homemade and it’s amazing.”
For a light start to your meal, try the tuna tartare nachos.
“There’s a little sour cream aioli wasabi aioli, which is delicious. So you got a little bit of heat, a little spice, but the freshness of the tuna and the crispness of the wontons all works together.”
For a heartier nacho, try these Irish style ones.
“We basically deconstructed a reuben took some big Sidewinder french fries, we layered them with corned beef, we cover them in cheese, and we put a nice 1000 Island dressing right on the top of it sprinkled with scallions and some sour cream and you have a dish that is amazing.”
The sandwich game at Fox Creek Tavern is strong. There’s a Nashville hot chicken sandwich that will rival any others you’ve had.
“We’re taking a marinated chicken breast lightly frying it and topping it with slaw. It comes on a brioche bun and it’s drizzled with a aioli that is just spicy and sweet. On the first bite is really spicy. But the way that the roll and the slaw kind of cool it off is really nice.”
And if you really want to indulge, check out the mac and cheese stuffed grilled cheese.
“It’s macaroni stuffed and loaded with cheese and it’s just a comforting winter fall meal that really hits home.”
And since everyone loves sourcing and supporting local, there’s nothing more local than the EXTRA Local Burger.
“We have New Hampshire bacon, Vermont cheddar and Massachusetts baked bread. And we actually serve it on a plate made by a local potter. If you want to try something that’s super local, made right here in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont. That’s what you want to get.”
And the comfort food continues right through the entree section at Fox Creek Tavern.
With oversized portions of mac and cheese served in a cast iron skillet and the super satisfying seafood alfredo loaded up with the freshest fish around.
“You get scallops You get shrimp you get lobster piled with fresh Parmesan cheese and homemade pasta and a huge skillet. It’s unbelievable.”
“It comes in Alfredo. It’s creamy. It’s cheesy. If you can finish the whole thing I’d be impressed.”
And it’s hard not to be impressed by Fox Creek’s steak tips.
“The marinade we use is our family recipe from Kentucky. It’s sweet, but with a little kick. Delicious char on open flames in the kitchen”
And you’d be crazy not to cap your meal with a Fox Creek dessert. Whether it’s the indulgent lava cake or the light but satisfying panna cotta.
“It’s a perfect ending to a perfect meal, where it’s light enough, and you don’t feel too heavy, but it’s sweet enough that you feel satisfied.”
And from hospitality to scratch made meals, the team here makes sure you’re satisfied which is definitely sweet at Fox Creek Tavern.
