Chowder House

The Common Market in Quincy is a massive dining complex featuring several dining concepts including a neighborhood, a European bistro, and Phantom's favorite: the Chowder House.

Atmosphere(8)

Each room is well-decorated, appropriate with the theme of the particular restaurant. The Chowder House is particularly comfortable, especially the downstairs "Williamsburg" decor.

Menu(9)

Because of the three restaurants under one roof, the cross-section of dishes seems endless. Definitely something for everyone.

Portions(8)

This place is known for ample portions. Plenty to eat.

Appetizers(8)

Three chowders, all semi-thick with large chunks of potatoes. Fish chowder was deep in flavor due to the large chucks of fish meat. The seafood chowder was stocked with a bountiful supply of shrimp, clams, fish, and scallops.

Food and Drink(8)

Baked stuffed shrimp is basic for sure, but stuffed with just the right touch of buttery moist scallop-based stuffing that didn't overpower the jumbo shrimp. The baked stuffed scallops were fresh and flavorful, with a tasty crabmeat stuffing. Enjoyable snapping fresh greens and Lyonaisse potatoes on the side.

Desserts(9)

Apple crisp served with whipped cream and ice cream with a caramel drizzle is hall-of-fame. Wonderful tiramisu.

Service(8)

Veteran waitstaff knows plenty of customers by name. This restaurant is incredibly organized, all plates arrive on time.

Cleanliness(9)

Despite the heavy foot traffic, every area of the Common Market is practically spotless, including the parking lot.

Parking(9)

A half mile south of East Milton Square, paralell to the southeast expressway. Parking is plentiful off the street.

Value(9)

With a dinner for two running under $80, the Chowder House is a fabulous value. Every dish: from appetizer to entree to dessert is a good deal, and a good deal of food.
