There’s a tasty tour around the world happening at Cafe Sauvage.
Located in Back Bay, Cafe Sauvage is the dream turned reality for French owners Anais and Antoine Lambert.
“Cafe Sauvage is a multi-cultural space. We are located in Back Bay area nearby Newbury Street. So it’s very convenient for every customer. Back Bay, it’s a really nice location. Very beautiful. It’s a historical neighborhood. So all of that combined, make it very special.”
In French, Sauvage means wild. And they chose that name because this place isn’t like the stuffy French restaurants you might be used to. When you enter the space, you immediately feel at home, whether you choose to dine at one of their tables, set in this stunning tropical space, or at the marble bar in the back, perfect for solo diners.
“We really want to have a relaxing environment and a friendly environment as well where everybody is welcome.”
And every customer will find something they like on Cafe Sauvage’s diverse menu.
“The menu is not just French cuisine. We’re bringing my African heritage on the menu with some African spices. Like the roasted chicken some stuff that you won’t see anywhere else. So we’re really mixing the flavor, mixing the people. It’s a really magical spot where everybody’s welcome.”
So Phantom got in the mix in search of THE PERFECT MEAL.
Starters at Cafe Sauvage are sophisticated, shareable and scrumptious. There’s beautiful avocado toast topped with an earl grey tea egg, frisee and pickled mustard seed and beautiful boards of top of the line charcuterie and cheese. But nothing does it quite like the French Onion Soup.
“We have some gruyere of course, crouton with caramelized onions. You put your spoon in this melting cheese. It’s a very warming dish. It’s very tasty. “
Sandwiches at Cafe Sauvage also span the globe, with a traditional French Croque Madame smothered in mornay sauce with a perfectly cooked sunnyside up egg. To one of the best Bahn Mi sandwiches in all of Boston. This beautiful baguette is stuffed with slow roasted pork, crunchy vegetables, and a flavorful dijonnaise.
“It’s a fusion of flavor in one bite. You get that baguette with dijon sauce and the pork belly plus the salad. You’ll find multiple bahn mi around town but you need to come at Cafe Sauvage to find the best Bahn mi in town.”
But it’s the burger that’s the true hero of the handhelds, topped with lettuce, tomato, crispy shallots and creamy Sauvage sauce.
“The burger is juicy, savory I think the crispy onion makes a difference for sure. With with our Sauvage sauce tomato and lettuce and some gruyere cheese altogether. We make it with love and we really want you to try it.”
Entrees run the gamut, depending upon what you’re looking for. There’s the ultra comforting Truffle Cavatelli, spiked with Parisian mushrooms in a creamy truffle parmesan sauce. Or a classic Steak Frites with a bone marrow sherry butter and super crispy fries. The Injera Crepe is a unique dish smothered with coconut swiss chard and mushrooms and topped with pickled red onions with piri piri. But if you want a dish that’s near and dear to the owner, the Roasted Chicken is a must.
“For me, t’s a special dish because it’s my mom recipe. So it’s a Senegalese dish. So you have some jollof rice You have the plantains, some salad frisee and the roasted chicken. You have that garlic sauce. It’s very tasty, very creamy mix with the Jollof rice, mix with a plantain. For me it tastes like home. “
At dessert, there’s nothing quite like the Nutella Crepe. This sweet is stuffed with plenty of that rich hazelnut spread and topped with creamy bananas anglais and bruleed bananas.
“It comes with some homemade chocolate crumble, underneath and we do a banana sauce around it so you can make it very tasty and we make it beautiful with some caramelized bananas on top. It’s the perfect way to end your meal.”
French Onion Soup, a Sauvage Burger, Roasted Chicken, and the Nutella Crepe make for the PERFECT MEAL at Cafe Sauvage.
