Cafe Barada

Do you have a craving for Lebanese food? Probably not. But, Cafe Barada in Arlington should satisfy those who do.

Atmosphere(7)

Seats about 70 with storefront windows. Green and rose are the colors all over. A bit sparse and shabby looking.

Menu(8)

All Middle Eastern menu actually describes every item--which definitely came in handy. Tabbouleh, labany, kibbeh, and many other unpronounceable items all available.

Portions(8)

Salads and sandwiches are chock full of stuff. Ample dinner entrees come with tons of veggies on the side. If you can finish a whole falafel, you might "feel-awful"

Appetizers(8)

Hoummos, falafel, and grape leaves are all outstanding.

Food and Drink(8)

Authentic middle eastern cuisine. The sheik 'l meshi, eggplant stuffed with beef or lamb in a rich tomato sauce will transport you back to the old country.

Desserts(8)

Homemade baklava and rice pudding are sweeter than Turkish delight.

Service(8)

Not white glove service, but friendly and pleasant. The owner/ waiter brought out extra napkins and warned be careful, the sandwiches are messy.

Cleanliness(7)

The rugs are dark and dull. Could use some sprucing up.

Parking(7)

Mass Ave. in Arlington. Parking on the street can be a bit chancey.

Value(9)

Nightly specials between $7 and $9 are a great buy. Lamb shish kebab for $9. Sandwiches run about $5. Certainly a better deal than having to fly to Lebanon.
