Blackstone on the Hill
If you're like me and you want to just try absolutely everything on the menu at a restaurant, you might like Blackstone on the Hill in Providence. The concept here is flights. So there's ten sections on the menu that give you a variety of choices, and you pick the three that you want.
Gian and Bryanna Ranucci are the co-pilots of this restaurant, so just sit back and enjoy the flights.
“I think our dining experience really offers more of like a family style. It's more of a community style. Eating it brings people together. It lets people try what other people like that they might not have ordered regularly because you get three options. Maybe you wouldn't have ordered the Buffalo chicken slider, but your friend did, so now you get to try a bite of it.”
“We tell people 1 to 2 per person, 3 or 4 for two people. A lot of times it's hard to guess how much food you're going to get. So get the sliders, get the French fry flight. You will not be upset. You might have a little bit to take home, but it'll be worth it.”
Sliders are a food that lend themselves well to a flight because they're small to begin with. I love this one, it's got an American style burger with that great cheese and ketchup. Then it's got an Italian style slider with a housemade meatball and marinara sauce. But the most interesting is the Buffalo Ranch slider. It's fried chicken with the buffalo sauce and ranch dressing.
The only thing better than mac and cheese is a mac and cheese flight. I love this shredded buffalo chicken and the bacon adds some crunch to that pasta, but I thought the best was a traditional breadcrumbs and baked.
To be able to get three is awesome. You know, Buffalo chicken mac and cheese, baked mac and cheese. Who doesn't love bacon mac and cheese? Our mac and cheese is all a scratch cheese sauce that we make to order that consists of a five cheese blend, American cheese, heavy cream, salt and pepper. And it comes together into this really good white American mac and cheese.
French fry flight has a truffle with parmesan cheese, a shredded buffalo chicken, and a cheese and bacon.
If you want a flight of things that don't fly, go with the land flight. Three of my favorite meats on one plate. This is a carnivore's dream come true. This features Wagyu beef, bourbon marinated tri tip, and lamb chops from New Zealand.
“Those are one of the best lamb chops I've ever had. Really good quality to them. Our bourbon tips are absolutely amazing. One of the tastiest, softest bourbon tips that you have. They've been marinated for a good amount of time with a house marinade. And then for our New York Wagyu strip, it's imported in from Japan to A5 Wagyu, and it's got a lot of marble and a lot of fat content. They cook it in butter in a pan. It gives it a really nice sear. It keeps all the fat inside of it.”
The seafood flight has two big lobster claws, two stuffed shrimp and this really different item. This is kind of like a mussels poutine. It's got mussels, red sauce, cheese curd, all served over French fries.
The most popular flight here is the Cheese Wheel flight, featuring three giant cheese wheels. These are aged in Italy for nine months. The process starts with grai
