Arugula

The cuisine at Arugula in West Hartford, Connecticut, quite simply, takes a backseat to no restaurant in Hartford County-including some of its more expensive and pretentious brethren.

Atmosphere(8)

Arugula is working with a small but tastefully decorated space. Tables are a little cramped, but there’s enough room to be comfortable. A pleasant place to spend an evening.

Menu(8)

Six varied appetizers, grilled sirloin and tuna burgers, and nine entrees that touch most bases make up the menu. The food is so good, Phantom wishes he had a few more to choose from.

Portions(8)

Pasta entrees will have you taking home Styrofoam. But what Phantom would have given for another forkful of the tuna!

Appetizers(9)

The warm roasted eggplant and wonton napoleon was a beautifully presented “tower of taste” that lasted on the table less than a minute. Grilled calamari was a wonderful break from the usual fried routine.

Food and Drink(10)

There’s a good reason why it’s quickly becoming one of the most popular restaurants in the area. Phantom would return just for the heavenly wild mushroom rosemary lasagna. Ditto for the perfect pan-seared filet of tuna with a ginger-mustard glaze.

Desserts(10)

When the server asks if you want dessert, nod your head and scream “YES!” Experience nirvana with a warm chocolate banana phyllo pocket or a silky slice of white chocolate cheesecake.

Service(9)

Don’t let the young, T-shirt clad staff food you. They know their business and they perform with a smile. Lightning fast refills.

Cleanliness(9)

Very clean indeed.

Parking(8)

Free night parking in the West Hartford public lots, but it will cost a few bucks during the day. Some meters are around

Value(10)

Appetizers run about $9. Entrees average only $15… with none over $19. Extremely reasonable prices for a fabulous meal.
