GOURMET GREATNESS

Buzz, buzz, buzz. For all the trendy hype, Lot 401 delivers a surprisingly strong performance from the kitchen. It’s still about the scene, but you just might leave satisfied too.

Atmosphere: 8
Named for its area code, Lot 401 is just past trendy with its changing rainbow panels, patches of faux grass, and dangling ravioli. The glass wall reflects a tuxedo scene of black banquettes on white walls.
Menu: 8
The Asian influenced menu is both flashy and eclectic, although it isn’t exactly cutting edge.
Appetizers: 9
Appetizers included a “deconstructed salad”, like an untossed antipasto of ripe goat cheese, mache, grape tomatoes, portabello mushrooms, beets, radish, and paper thin cucumbers, all elegantly dressed in truffle oil. The short rib dumplings came rich in little half moons grounded by beets and lifted by herbaceous chervil.
Entrees: 9
For entrees, the bright, acidic Thai Bourride entwined sea-sweet seafood of shrimp, mussels, soft scallop, clams, and lobster in a spicy coconut green curry. The signature steak & eggs released a runny panko-crusted poached egg over a juicy mouthful of rare filet mignon, with concentrated Bordelaise on the side.
Dessert: 8
To finish, the seven wonder sundae propped bittersweet chocolate ice cream on top of a salty sweet blondie, all drizzled in caramel and chocolate sauces with fun accessories of candied pecans, a coconut biscuit, and a graham cookie.
Portions: 8
Portions favor style without the heft, leaving you fit to hit the dance club upstairs.
Service: 8
Servers are just as trim, with plenty of style and black threads to blend with the décor.
Cleanliness: 10
The urban minimalist space nailed a perfectly clean state, visible by the chameleon colored lighting at the bar.
Value: 7
Appetizers are not $14 worth of excitement, and entrees are expensive at $24 to $45.
Location: 7
Lot 401 feels somewhat isolated on Hospital Street in the Jewelry District.
