This brand new spot in Coolidge Corner Brookline gets creative with irresistible comfort food classics, and chef Laura Henry-Zoubir says customers can't wait to see what's on the plate.
Laura Henry-Zoubir - The Regal Beagle: "They should be excited, it should come out to them and they should just be like, 'whoa, this is gonna be good.'"
Any meal at the Regal Beagle should start with a few of their ultra affordable bar bites, like Crab Rangoon Empanadas or Tempura battered Sweet Potato Fries. But the best bet is the addictive bacon-wrapped dates for just four bucks.
Laura Henry-Zoubir - The Regal Beagle: "It's this big fresh Medjool date, and we stuff it with really gooey Gorgonzola cheese, wrap it in bacon, and fry it... They're delicious."
Entrees at the Regal Beagle taste as good as they look. There's perfectly seared scallops topped with pistachio brittle and served over butternut squash risotto. The Regal Burger comes on a brioche bun with Vermont white cheddar and homemade bread and butter pickles. And the extra creamy Mac and Cheese is crusted with crushed Ritz crackers and flakes of sea salt. Served up in a cast iron skillet, it's comfort food at its best.
Chris Tocchio - The Regal Beagle: "Who doesn't like Mac and Cheese? Who doesn't want to come in on a cold wet rainy day and sit down and have a nice plate of Mac and Cheese?"
And if the Mac and Cheese is the ultimate comfort food dinner, then this is the ultimate dessert: Warm White Chocolate Bread Pudding, kicked up with bananas, raspberries, toffee sauce, and ice cream.
Laura Henry-Zoubir - The Regal Beagle: "I serve it in kind of a big bowl, so that as the ice cream is melting, you're not losing anything, it's not gonna go anywhere off your plate, it's gonna make kind of this sundae for you."
Of course, if you really want to feel warm and cozy all over, order the cookie plate, featuring Mexican Wedding cookies, Snickerdoodles, and Chocolate Chips. These cookies are so good, many of them never make it out of the kitchen.
Laura Henry-Zoubir - The Regal Beagle: "I definitely quality control, so I make sure the cookies are still good to serve."
The whole vibe at The Regal Beagle is warm and comfortable, from the fun drink menu to the retro wallpaper that nobody can resist touching. The goal was to create a place with a familiar feel, and a familiar name... Because as any fan of the classic TV favorite Three's Company knows, The Regal Beagle was the name of the bar where Jack, Chrissy, and Janet used to hang out.
Chris Tocchio - The Regal Beagle: “We're not trying to replicate the show, we're not trying to replicate what was going on with that bar, we just want to replicate the spirit of it all. And the sprit was, where did those guys spend every waking minute that they weren't in their apartment, they were down at The Regal Beagle, and that's kind of what we wanted to create for Coolidge Corner."
So come and knock on their door... They've been waiting for you... at The Regal Beagle, a Phantom Gourmet Hidden Jewel.
