Sweet cinnamon rolls hot of the oven. Humongous hunks of prime rib. A rip-roaring fireplace. Old man winter has finally met his match at New England Steak and Seafood in Mendon, Massachusetts. A sprawling, seven hundred seat restaurant filled with wood beams and countless antiques, New England Steak and Seafood has been owned and operated by the quirk family for over fifty years.

John Quirk, Jr. – Owner, New England Steak and Seafood: “We do things the old fashioned way and the old fashioned way in my opinion is the best.”

John Quirk runs the kitchen while his brother Jim works the dining room and their famous fireplace.

Jim Quirk – Owner, New England Steak and Seafood: “It's warm, it's great on a cold night, it's great on a snowy night, it's just a wonderful feeling to have a nice fire around you.”

But nothing can warm you up like the king cut prime rib. It's slow-roasted, sliced-to-order, and smothered in real pan juices.

John Quirk, Jr. – owner, New England Steak and Seafood: “a lot of places they buy the au jus, it's powder in a can, that's not au jus, but that's what a lot of places use.”

The steaks are all choice and always butchered on site. Regulars will tell you to order the sirloin blackened, but that has nothing to do with Cajun spices. Here, blackened steaks are simply marinated in a top-secret recipe so the outside is extra crispy and the inside is incredibly tender.

Every meal at New England Steak and Seafood starts with a basket full of fresh-baked breads including their signature sticky cinnamon buns, fluffy onion rolls, and addictively aromatic pumpkin bread.

John Quirk, Jr. – Owner, New England Steak and Seafood: “When you smell that pumpkin bread in the oven, in the morning or in the afternoon, boy there's nothing like it.”

For something even sweeter, check out the hot apple fritter. Puffy, beer-battered apple rings are deep fried, served over a smooth vanilla custard topped with cinnamon sugar and a caramel glaze. With flavors that will warm your heart and the feel of a Vermont ski lodge, no wonder New England Steak and Seafood is such a popular place to beat the cold.
