Boston's posh Newbury Street. Home to shopping, style, and the city's newest sweet shop. Sugar Heaven is a candy store for the new millenium, specializing in retro candy and novelties. And with so many different items, kids of all ages can find their favorite here.
David Sapers - Co-owner, Sugar Heaven: "It's a candy store for the people that grew up on penny candy stores, they come here and see the things that they grew up on and can't find anywhere else. And it's also for kids now that have never seen these candies before, that want to try them and say 'wow, these candies are amazing.'"
Of course, Sugar Heaven has Sugar Daddies, Sugar Babies, and even Sugar-free candies. Younger customers go Bonkers for Toxic Waste. Others say the Astronaut Ice Cream is out of this world. It's tough to choose among the 250 bulk items, 34 flavors of jellybeans, and four flavors of Cotton Candy, spun fresh to order.
Debra Novack - Co-owner, Sugar Heaven: "They come probably with one thing in mind, but they never leave with just one thing, they end up filling their bucket because there's just so much stuff."
And, there's all kinds of crazy interactive candy fun, like an M+M's dispenser with 21 different colors.
Rusty Lee Whitaker – Sugar Heaven Guide: "It's the M+M's Colorworks machine, and you push down this lever, and it sorts out different colors in a bag. If they fall in the little grid, we get to eat them. So, I really dig that."
There's a make-your-own Pixie Stick machine.
Rusty Lee Whitaker – Sugar Heaven Guide: "This is the Pucker Powder Candy Art Pixie Machine. It's like making Pixie art. You get to stick your tube up here and you get tons of wonderful sugar. Start out with purple, you get some nice pink in there. This is wonderful bubble gum flavor. Orange Vanilla Cream, and the Fruit Punch. Viola, you have your candy art. You could also make a necklace out of it if you wanted to."
There's a three foot long stick of bubble gum, and lollipops of all sizes. Sugar Heaven even makes gift baskets like the Get Well Soon package with chocolate Band-Aids, and the Chocolate Strawberry Cake made with Rolos, Chunkies, and Strawberry candies. Don't worry about cavities from all this sweet stuff, toothbrushes are also on sale.
If old fashioned fun is more what you’re looking for, Sugar Heaven has that too.
David Sapers - Co-owner, Sugar Heaven: "We have a lot of novelties. We have the original Rubik's Cube, we have the Candyland game which fits into the motif. We have Jacks, we have Pick-up Sticks. But all novelties are original, so you're not going to find anything that's going to break."
The one thing you might break at this store is curfew.
Debra Novack - Co-owner, Sugar Heaven: "We're open til midnight every day... most things close pretty early, it's not exactly the easiest thing to find snacks late at night. So we thought we'd stay open late so after dinner, after a couple drinks, you can come and grab some late night snacks."
Looks like candy lovers have found paradise at Sugar Heaven, a Phantom Gourmet... Hidden Jewel.
